Well, after owning my Tri for a season, it's looking like her and I may be parting ways. It's an outstanding motorcycle on the track, but a terrible streetbike (for me). My skin is more sensitive than most, and I have red/bumpy burned thighs after a street ride from the heat. I didn't ride it nearly enough because of that. I will most likely be moving onto the '13 Multi1200 once they are out. Still very capable at the occasional track day, but all day comfortable the rest of the time as well.

I'm told by my dealer there will be no Tricolore for '13, so hopefully I can get a decent amount for it.

The bike is a BLAST at speed, and gorgeous. I'll continue to lurk here regardless if it's cool with you all.

Cheers,

Mike

thats sorry to hear mike

i hope the best with other plans and you do still stick around.

was the heat really a issue and did you try all the prevention
like heat reflector under seat and on the shield, carbon shield. leather pants and even wearing pushbike pants?

The heat isnt the seat itself, it's the heat coming off the head on the sides. The only time it was bearable was on the track, at speed.

It's a great machine, and luckily mine never had any smoking/leaking/other issues people have seen. I almost bought an M1200S Touring before buying the panny, and now I just feel that I shoulda gone the other way.

If you wear proper leather motorxcycle pants I would guess this doesn't happen. I don't have a Panigale but I know my 1198 and 998 will burn my calves if I am only wearing my summer textiles. I never wear jeans and pretty
much mostly wear my leathers and there are no heat issues.

How many miles do you have on her

I have a Tricolore as well. I found that after the first 600 miles the heat is no-longer an issue.

It's like it is almost part of the breakin.....

I posted this in another thread. You might want to hold off on parting ways at least until after the new year?

"Just and FYI. I dropped my bike off this morning at my local Duc dealer to have the recall work done. Before, I left I stopped by the sales area to speak with the Ducati sales manager. After some small talk he said "Ducati was working on a fix for the heat issue for existing and new bikes" and that he was hopping to have the fix before the end of the year. The fix supposedly includes a larger heat shield with heat reflecting material and a cover for the rear cylinder head that will also be lined with this reflective material. He didn't say whether this would be a recall/no charge item to existing owners or a paid option. So it's safe to assume the 2013.5 and 2014 models should have fewer heat related issues?"

^ 2 dealers I've spoken to this week also stated the same thing as rm4two noted above. I believe this information is accurate as there was a dealer conference earlier this week.

I also heard that from the dealers that the Tri will continue.

I live in California Bay Area where it is generally higher temperatures. I have found that Jet Hot coating the internal and external of the exhaust (polished) has brought the heat down a fair bit. I also where Dainese Teflon jeans. Other than being trapped in stationary traffic or stop-start-stop-start traffic, I have endured no heat problems. In summary, Jet hot coating (polished) the exhaust has worked very well.

Sorry to hear that, I can see how the heat would be an issue for some. For me it isn't as all of my riding is done in my Alpinstars suit, and in that I dont feel any heat at all. Maybe if I am at a long red light on a hot day I might begin to feel a little heat, but hardly noticeable. My advice? Get a 1 piece riding suit, (once you get used to riding with it you wont want to ride without it because you'll feel naked if you do) The heat issue will be solved and you will be riding much safer anyway...

After putting on the race seat and rearsets, I have found that mu legs sit up higher, and my thighs no longer burn.

totallly transformed the bike

Ceramic coating, inside and out, made a big difference!

Before, in Dianese Alien leather pants and 150 mile days, I got 2nd deg burns on my R posterior thigh. As has been noted...proper riding gear doesn't always solve the heat/burn issue, but there are ways to ameliorate it-

Everyone reacts different to heat. It sounds like the OP's skin is more sensitive to heat that many others and thus has a pretty bad reaction. That is a shame but I tend to believe that if you are not comfortable on the bike while riding then it only distracts attention from the road and that can be dangerous. Also, if it takes away from the enjoyment then maybe it is better to simply sell the Pani and buy something that he will at least enjoy while riding.

I had an opportunity to buy a beautiful low mile Ferrari 328 GT (in dark blue no less) about 20 years ago. I REALLY wanted that car. But, at 6'2" the top of the car was too low for me to sit in properly and my head had to be tilted left or right to sit up straight. Also the foot wells were so tiny (the front wheel wells really cut into the under dash area) that I could not fit both feet upright causing my left foot to hit the edge of the brake pedal each time I depressed the clutch pedal to shift. (If ever a car could use a Quick shift). So, no purchase for me. I was sad but hey, that's life.

I understand the OP's position as I too have sensitive skin and get the burns if stuck in stop and go traffic. I found some commuting solutions like better jeans and a sleeve (the type used for leg braces) on my thighs. I'm fortunate in that I can find alternate routes to avoid the traffic.

This is the best time of the year for my area as the day time temps start getting into the 80's with morning temps in the 60's.

I can totally sympathize. I ride all of my bikes, but I also have cars. If I was using this as a commuter bike in anywhere there was decent amounts of traffic, I wouldn't terribly be happy with it either. .. There are a lot of other bikes/cars/etc that would be better choices than to have this bike in traffic. . .. It's a superbike - which means a lot of compromises have to be accepted - namely that it isn't the most comfortable bike to sit on, and it generates large amounts of heat that unless you're moving - is difficult to get used to. Wrapping and ceramic coat are only temporary and marginally effective measures to try and move the heat elsewhere until it can be removed. It doesn't reduce the actual amount of heat generated when you're not moving.
