Hey guys, finally got out on my new bike today after having her in my garage for the last 2 weeks (couldnt ride due to surgery). Got out today, awesome ride, amazing bike. Stopped after about 100km for coffee and lunch, roll her back into a parking space - and suddenly she is leaking a reddish oily fluid all over the road! Phoned up Ducati Roadside assist, long story short, 5hrs (and $162) later I'm home, and the bike is in a holding garage to be taken to the dealer tomorrow. Pretty disappointed, bike only has 117km total on Odo. I'm suspecting (hoping) only a popped off hose or plug - any ideas? Still smiling though - pretty stoked with the bike up to that point.

Thankfully that happened when it did and not when you were mid corner. What's the story with Ducati roadside? I have been thinking about adding the bike to AAA roadside just in case I have issues with Ducati roadside...

I know mate - very, very lucky! Ducati roadside was very helpful, but due to only covering $400 per insident - being Sunday and around 100km from Perth and the added trip tomorrow to dealer - had to pay in to cover cost. They tried to organise me a taxi home from garage - but waited an hour and eventually got an Uber home - but thats not their fault, slack taxis in Perth.

First time she got hot. It could be over filled coolant. How full was your fuel tank at this stage?

Thought so too, but was a lot of fluid - didnt want to take a chance. Fuel tank was about 1/2 full when it happened. Will update when I hear from the dealer

When i read stuff like this online it makes me scared to ride our bikes hopefully we wont have any of these problems as you know our bikes doesn't have that reliability reputation of a Honda has :(

I am just scared of major services of our bikes *($2500 hit in the pocket at 18000km service). I had absolutely no idea this is what the costs are stupid me i should have done my research before i bought these bikes.

Scary stuff, seems the more 1299's we see the more problems are reported? Or is it just a handful compared to the sales numbers.
In contrast I took mine out over the weekend hadn't started it in a month (no battery tender) it fired right up went like a dream , I'm holding thumbs that it just lasts
My bike has 2189km on now and is 10 months old , no issues Yet

So, just had the call from the dealership - apparently a faulty thermostat is to blame... And apparently no damage, even though it heated up enough to cause the fluid drain... And it is going to take 3 weeks to repair (which I don't understand in this day and age with over night deliveries and the like). Does anybody have experience with modern bike's thermostats? From experience with cars many years ago, if your thermostat went and the engine overheated - you always had problems with that engine. Is there anything I should be worried about? Thanks for your help.

Same thing happened to mine.. It was what they call a "Squirter unit" Mine happened in front of the dealer luckily... Kinda like having a heart attack out in front of the hospital LOL.. The Panigale (at least my Panigale) is not a bike I could plan on taking across country or on a long distance trip... I never know from one week to the next when something is going to go haywire or break..

They have to remove a bunch of things to get to the thermostat manifold. I opted not to run one when I did the Radiator swap. Bike is perfect 6000 miles and never a drop of any fluid of any kind. I obviously did not get the same builder who built The bike for Speedy

This means i can't plan long trip on my bike it's too unreliable from what i have read online :( when the 18000km service gets near i might get rid of her because the cost is going to be around $2000 to $2500 for that major service :( that's more than a Ferrari service cost :(

It doesn't take 11-12 hours to service a Ferrari.

Those valves aren't easy to check.

$2500 for a major service :( that's absolutely steep for us anyway we don't have a job like we used to prior to western countries went to globalization bringing in cheap foreign workers pushing us out of work.

All my friends are all out of work can't find a job unless you look indian or pakistani or something along those line.

If you think it is bad now jut wait and see what happens if Hitlery gets elected...!
She has already stated she is going to heavily tax the middle class in order to pay for all the illegal aliens she is bringing in... Not counting all the new ones from all those wonderful terrorists countries.. She has no good record to brag about so all she can do is promise more free crap to the sheep out there that are stupid enough to believe she could ever deliver it..... Typical big government liberal politician... She is incapable of telling the truth.. She is a traitor to this country and should have been put in prison a long time ago..

All thanks to the so called "Progressive" party... If she gets elected my wife and I are literally moving to Costa Rica...
It may very well happen... Don't ever underestimate the stupidity of people in large numbers that watch The Clinton News Network (CNN) and MSNBC etc.. They are all brainwashed. Saul Alinsky, the author of Rules For Radicals called them "useful idiots"

If you think that last 8 years of the Obamination's rule were bad.. Just wait until she is elected.. She will be the Obamination on steroids!
The first thing she will try to do is get rid of the 2nd amendment... From there we will be at the mercy of a tyranical government and eventually a police state....
Thomas Jefferson stated;
"When the government is afraid of the people you have freedom".. When the people are afraid of the government you have tyranny"..

When a government gets big enough to give you all you need... it can take all you have..

Just because a few people online have problems with their bikes doesn't mean everyone does. The online world doesn't always reflect the real world.

Just get your bike fixed under warranty and ride it. Don't be scared to ride it because it may break down. All brands have their problems. Ducati's nowadays are no more/less reliable than any other motorcycle brand.

8500 miles on mine, no big issues. Bleed the front brake and clutch occasionally, change the tires. I wouldn't worry about long trips unless your bike ends up a lemon.

Absolutely agree. As some one said before, it seems you are more likely to post on issues than when things are going swimmingly. The 101km I did on the bike was everything and more that I wished for in the bike. It was just a kick in the nuts when she dropped her load! And then standing by whilst she was loaded on the back of a towtruck - and of course every other biker coming past making a comment about the brand reliability... All and all I have had pretty good service from the dealer, and I'm still smiling. Looking forward to get her back!

Hey Alpha
did you see I posted the number for InsureMyRide for you?

BTW most 1199/1299 are pretty good, the majority of people do not have problems, just a few unlucky ones.

Your numbers are a bit off on that Alpha, I checked that on Saturday when I was at the dealer and he quoted me $1750-00 at 24000 kms, still not cheap but not quite as bad as you are saying, maybe different price in the eastern states but the service kms should be the same.

Don't understand why some people are afraid to ride their bikes on a trip. Look at the Dude (can't remember his name) who has ridden across Europe on a Panigale.

I have ridden mine from Raleigh, NC to VIR multiple times to watch races. No troubles at all.

I tighten the fairing and exhaust fasteners once a month, swap the clutch fluid about every other month (I don't like it to be too dark, call me Anal), and change the oil every 3500 miles.

I am at 6000 miles in 18months and loving it.
