Hey guys... Brand new to ducati and though I like working on my bikes the ducati is different. I just have one question. Is the oil filter the same design /technique as the 1199/1299. And is it located in front of the oil pan /behind the oil cooler facing down? Have not took the fairings off so just wondering. Thanks!

It's the same oil filter as the 1199 and 1299, but at least one part of the oil change (can't remember which component, maybe the O-ring?) is unique to the V4. Just make sure all the part numbers match up before doing anything.

I have not received my V4 yet but dealer had an oil change special so I pickup two filters and they are the same as 1199/1299. The difference as mentioned are the O rings for the V4. I have also been told that you have to wait 2 to 3 hours after change to check oil level

It's the same as described in the manual :)

You should read it, amazing insight!

Obviously, paperwork is at my in laws as I used there truck to go get the bike and left it all there... That's why I used the forum.... For questions....

No if you are going to do you own oil changes check with dealer. The tech at my dealer is a good friend and in their training on the V4 they were told to wait up to 3 hours after changing the oil and the bike sitting to check the level in sight glass.

Assuming this is true, does that mean since you have to wait 2-3 hours for oil to reach the bottom of the oil pan therefore you need to wait 2-3 hours to ride?

i think the oil filter is different to the 1199/1299 check the part number just to be on the safe side.

takes about 20 mins if you take your time.

I was wrong . I can't believe this is how it is done LOL

It's because the bike has multiple oil pumps akin to a Formula 1 car, it's an oil dispersion system no other bike uses as far as I know. Basically, while the bike is running, the sump is completely dry. It doesn't pool in the bottom for the clutch to dip in or anything like that, it's being violently thrown into every crevasse by those multiple pumps.

So to change the oil, you gotta let it sit while the oil slowly drains into the sump. If you popped the bolt off immediately after riding, you wouldn't really get much oil to come out and it would slowly drip out instead of pouring like with every other bike.

So this really isn't bad.. I'm kinda OCD and let my past bikes sit and drip all night anyway. So it's saying let sit 2 hrs before changing but as far as adding I should be able to bring up to sight glass then its good. Or do we have to go ride for a bit, wait two hrs and check?

Hey Jonathan, when I had the oil change done, I rode to the dealer, the bike had to sit 2 hours to cool as others mentioned, then actual oil change. Then fire up until operating temperature and do a heat cycle. Then cool down 2 hours again to check and top up if necessary.

Oil filter is the same as 1x99, but O-ring is v4 specific.
