Kawasaki's H2 Superbike

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

Based on the limited H2 views we've been exposed to thus far, I would say the H2 looks very racy indeed. However, Kawasaki's acceleration-grounded advertising teasers have led many to surmise this platform has been built with the primary objective of becoming the fastest accelerating bike on the market - something that could certainly lend one an advantage on the track, but which will likely require sacrificing agility to some extent. It will be very interesting to see exactly how the company has elected to package this power plant.

Doesn't the ZX14 fulfill that role???

More power is not what we need it's less weight, I bet it will be a pig unless you like going in a straight line

The ZX14 is a very straight line committed bike. There is certainly no way to tell what performance area the new H2 will be optimized for as of yet, but I envision this being something more in the form of a 70/30 ZX10R/ZX14 combination.

They are talking about 250bhp in street trim.

How nice :)

TJ99 to the plan, DUCATI back to the supermono!!!!

OR:
make a small (sub 700 cc twin, watercooled - to run in the Leightweight twin class) and make the bike wigh <300 lb

(like a Cagiva Mito on steroids) - oh how i miss that little mito125 ...

I agree that either of those bikes would be super cool. The problem is that neither would be cheap, by any means. Beyond a very limited group of enthusiasts it's doubtful that many people would be willing to pay, for example, $22k for a 550cc single with 75hp. Or let's say we make a 300lb 400cc supercharged (since it's the topic du jour) twin that makes 90hp - but it costs as much as an 1199R. At that point you're basically talking about an NCR Millona - 320lbs, 100hp, $40k. They don't sell many of them, I can tell you.

It's a hard business case to make when someone could get a pristine RS250, R6, or race-kitted SV650 for a fraction of the price, and have (arguably) just as much fun...

I would be first on the list for something like a 550cc single but more poeple seem obsessed with power now than weight.

I was just on the track with a NSR 250 and it was so much fun you can't really go much above 100mph but being able to break exceptionally late and carry more corner speed it's alot of fun and very frustrating the more powerful bikes.

Nice bike!

I think it illustrates the point well, that even the 748 and 749 guys are a relatively small subset of Ducatisti, heck I even see people referring to the 899 as a "2nd-tier" choice, and that bike is phenomenal on track. Imagine how much less the perception of a 450 or a 550 would be (aside from a small group of dedicated enthusiasts), if it were a proper sportsbike with a premium price. If instead it were cheaply built and spec'd, to attract the larger group of entry-level customers? Well then you're messing with the whole Ducati brand identity. I don't think anyone wants to see Ducati make its version of the Blast, at least I hope not.

So totally changing the subject but since TJ99 has resurfaced: whatcha working on now? :D

Getting ready for EICMA, it's going to be a good show this year. Lots of major announcements expected among sportbikes of all brands. As an enthusiast myself I can't wait to see what everyone brings to the table! :D

Oh I'm always around, never left. I like to stay current on what's going on in the forums, it's a great way to break out of the bubble and keep updated on what "you all," i.e. actual customers, think/want/hate/love.

As far as things to tease, nothing - unfortunately we've decided to freeze the lineup exactly as-is, with any modifications over the next decade or two limited solely to color changes....:eek::eek:

;):p

Internet = the opposite of Vegas

There are awesome bikes in the pipeline for as far as the eye can see - I wouldn't know where to begin! ;)

I like sportbikes myself, and when I look at what the future holds I get all giddy inside...that's the honest truth. It's a great time to be a lover of motorcycles and a great time to be a Ducatista.

good to hear!!!

back on topic:

copied statement from a Kawi - test rider:

"I stopped by the local dealership yesterday and the sales guys talked me up about the H2 saying they've already got guys wanting to buy one. Some dealers have already taken deposits for the bike without even knowing what the MSRP is going to be. The hype is huge....the bike is way better than the hype!

Scariest (in a good way), most gnarly bike I've ever ridden!"

i'm just sorry that it's not a DUC :D
