I would love to get deeper into this topic.
It seems that the discussion can be splitted into four parts:
1) How does the Panigale PIN code system work and what is it really good for. And how does a PIN code affect re-installation of a new e-lock unit.
2) It would be great if a forum moderator could start a poll to find out what the main reasons would be for you guys to change the existing physical key to a keyless system.
There are for sure multiple different motivations, i.e.:
i.) improved security
ii.) usability (e.g. no need for a key at hand, just attach/sewing a tag into your gloves)
ii.) bling factor (starting your bike in front of Starbucks without sticking something into it)
iii.) weight. I guess the race guys would be happy to remove the whole e-lock thing. No need for a lock, bike should only have an on-off switch and should be as light and rugged as possible.
3) Key Lock mechanism. In multiple European countries it is mandatory by law (driven by insurance companies) to have a physical key lock on your bike.
I guess race guys give a .... about a key lock
I'd like to know whether it's a requirement in the US of Americas, Australia and other countries without an "A" at the beginning
4) What is really required to install a new e-lock unit on a Panigale. Some say its only the e-lock unit, some say dashboard and and ECU also have to be changed. And then others again say that synchronization of all three units can be done using the DDS. Is there a Ducati dealer/tech that could enlighten us?
Side note: All currently available keyless ingnition lock units on the market WON'T work on the Panigale because of the immobilizer logic!
