Hey guys, I’m new to the forum, I just bought my 1199 a month ago, and today I noticed some kind of thick metallic gunk leaking from the starter motor gasket? I attached a pic to this post, does anyone know what it might be (oil?) and if it’s a serious issue? Thanks guys!

There is a seal inside the starter motor that prevents oil from going inside the starter which is leak , the oil is going inside the starter motor and from there its coming out !

Hey thanks! I plan on tearing the bike down soon to install several things, so I'll confirm the starter is leaking--but from what I can see through the fairing there is fluid surrounding the area where the starter mates to the engine. I may have another oil leak on that same left side, will know soon, it might be coming from the clutch shaft! I'll let you know what I find out--please hold your starter for me!

I'm installing a new CNC clutch slave, shock support, shift shaft support (based on your recommendation!), new top triple, Termi race headers--currently at Jet-Hot for coating, Ducati alarm, and I think that's it!

Yes indeed! So glad for the impending cool-off--! I went to Motoamerica on Saturday--didn't return for Sunday because it's too dang hot!

And thank you--I'll be querying you about leak repairs if needed!
Greg.
