A few of the lightweight front axles are not available anymore so I was considering the puretec through Kamna, anyone have any experience or alternatives?

Thankyou

Hey man. Still have the clutch. Still in the box. After 2 attempts to ship it. FedEx wanted like 200 bucks to ship it. If you can figure out how to take care of some shipping method, LMK and I’ll send it out Monday. No charge of course. On the axle, I’m doing my own now But there a lot of aftermarket out there. I still have a couple of those gold alloy axles (TP or something) I think Belisimoto was buying them out. I’d say go with Ti or steel up front but honestly I put 11k pot hole miles on that aluminum axle and it looks brand new

You will find that one a lot lighter than the steel one. I posted the weight difference about a year ago. I will look up my old photos and try and repost. This one will weigh about the same as the MVS one. I think it is a good weight saving for the money. If they have the spacers in alloy get those too. a machine shop will do the spacer in 7075 pretty cheap as it is such a simple job. Just take the steel ones for them to copy.

Hey Brad I been running the Podium front Ti axle they are still available to also direct bolt on.

Hey Mick,
Thanks for that. Yes that one sounds good. BTW I still have to fit the stuff I got from you and was very excited to post about all the stuff I have to put on, ...but now I do not feel like sharing too much otherwise I will be accused of being part of the bolt on brigade. Personally I have the MVS axle on my bike which came with spacers and washers. All lighter. I will dig up the pics of the pieces for Able Duc on of the comparison weights on the scales. I am going to buy some more Podium stuff. They have a good range. Thanks for the post.

Hey Brad awesome man so yeah Podium axle is great axle zero issues with mine and yes they make some decent stuff. Yeah getting little weird round here as usual so keep me posted on the install of all the carbon bits and fan stuff

Thanks Brad and Mick.
Ed appreciate your trying to help with the clutch went to my local post office and told $200 is about the post cost when organising from this end so looks like it would be nuts unless I could bundle it with some of your other bits maybe. I need clutch plates, light front axle and nut as well as light 520 conversion bits. I've started pulling all the Ti bolts from my 899 since I'm pulling the 1199 out of moth balls, got hold of some cf wheels and termi corse system for it so I'm now licking my wounds after buying these :)
That wheel would look good hanging on a Ti axle but I suppose for someone like me only a dream.

@able duc ,
The OEM steel one weighs 372.6 grams. The alloy one (7075 MVS) weighs 186.5 grams. There are also two steel spacers. OEM are 71.6grams and 39.5 grams. The allow replacements are less than half that. While you are at it buy some BOCA hybrid ceramic bearings. No weight saving they weigh the same as standard but the friction is chalk and cheese. When I put my mag wheels on, I had to fit spacers supplied with the wheels. The two spacers weighed 75 g each so 150 g added to the mix. I drew up a little design and had the spacers made up in 7000 series alloy and each then weighed only 32.7 grams. Both less than the weight of one. A friend did the machining for free on his lathe as I watched on and learned some about machining metal. If you are looking to reduce weight then go Alloy it will weigh less than Ti. BTW I think I will end up buying something from Kamna. :)

Does anyone have one of the axles from Kamna? Is it a straight copy of the factory axle dimensionally or does it have an internal tapered profile at the sheer section like the TPO alloy axle had? I ask because this is one of those areas that you may want to ask some questions. You get this wrong, and you are probably at least in for an expensive ambulance ride. You may want to consider not only suspension loads but braking loads and lateral side loading before sending that front axle to weight watchers. I encourage anyone looking to diet in this area find a solution that meets or exceeds the operational loading specs of the original part. Thats just good business. Wheel spacers, washers, disc spacers, hardware yep sure thing on the Jenny Craig plan but think about that axle. Don’t know if I have ever seen a liter SBK use one (doesn’t mean the haven’t or don’t) the Corse QC axle I have in a box from 2017 is steel. The Fast Frank QC axles (pretty much the standard) are steel. If you’re happy with the specs on the axle you choose, get it but don’t sacrifice a whole lot to save the weight of a few Toll House Cookies that you will never ever be able to notice.

When the Ti rear axles we’re being made weight consideration never took priority over structural integrity. The axle had to be operationally superior to the original and whatever the weight came out to be, that’s what it was. It is a fair bit lighter than the stock rear but not as light as it could have been. A fairly sound strategy in any structural design.

Yeah I would be skeptical on running some of them far and few aluminum axles or even some of the iffy ti versions. The TPO (no longer in business) made some of the nicest strongest stuff around back in the day. Lots of Podium front Ti axles have been being used mine has been solid lots of miles and inspected on a regular basis no issues. Same goes for my NJM rear ti axle (only ever one made) has been running strong if I need a backup (probably wont) I will just get a BSD they will always be available.

Thanks Brad, think my wheels are ceramic bearings and of course have captured alloy spacers. What are you getting from Kamna?
Thanks Phil
Thanks Ed
Thanks Mick
