Lithium Ion Battery

This topic is as vast as the "how to break in a bike" one dude. So many trains of thought on this and so many items to choose from I know! I have been on the shelf with this for some time too. Heard great things and even met the owner of a co who makes what he claims the very best lithium one. Also heard from Master Techs that they have had numerous issues with these frying up the ECU and other electric issues too. But then again other pro's I know swear by them! Its a very diverse crowd for sure. Do a search both here and on other forums for them and take it all into account. If you need to hear right from these sources I mention Id be happy to send you their info. As of right now I am not doing it - why fix what isnt broken at this point, despite the fact they produce some really stellar reviews from some. Tough decisions eh? :D

I've had a shorai lithium battery in my streetfighter for nearly a year. The SF is the first duc I didn't keep hooked up to a battery tender at all times. These lithium batteries absolutely do not discharge a significant amount when sitting.

The batteries are a fraction of the weight of regular batteris.
BUT be very careful, a load of versions out there of lithium batteries. Shorai seems to be among the best supported of the ones out there.

No regrets getting mine.

One down side of Lithium battery is heat, remember the Laptop batteries exploding, Cell Phones on fire. Cars that run on batteries actually have a separate cooling system to keep the temp down. Considering the location of the battery in the Panigale and the noticible heat toasting my ... every ride. I will keep my hands off the Lithium for a little while.

If a simple change of battery can shave off a few pound. Why would bike makers go through the extend of R&D to reduce weight. I would think this is the first step they would take.

Actually their are two different types of lithium batteries, the older lithium ION (laptop and phone). and the newer, more environmentally friendly and safer lithium IRON (this is shorai ).

Apparently the Lithium Iron batteries don't have the heat issues of the lithium ion battery.

Correct... and to be a little more precise, the chemistry you're after is LiFePO;)

Thanks guys! Your opinions have been very helpful :D. I might buy one of these.
I prefer saving weight over adding more power. €120 to save 2 kg is cheap compared to buying carbon parts in order to get the same weight savings

Gunny, I'm going to search the internet and read some more about them. Thanks for the good advice :D.

Shorai Lithium Iron batteries

I have fitted a Shorai Lithium Iron battery to my Panigale S Tricolore and am very happy with it. There is a substantial weight saving and it starts very easy. :D
