Is there a way to make the 1199 smoother at low speeds?

Does changing the sprocket help with the power curve?

I ride around town most of the time and am looking for solutions

Get a moped for town.

You bought a race bike.

Gearing helps just a little bit.

I love the way this runs in town, the sound is sweet.

Have you gotten the map update from your dealer? Before the update, my first and second gear use to be useless around town. Always bucking, trying to throw me off. After the update, only 1st gear is useless, I can cruise around at low speeds in 2nd without issue.

14T sprocket here.

all nice, fine and smooth. (might have to do with exhaust and fueling as well)

i recommend it. fastest i got the bike to was 171mph (at RRR), i don't need more...

My bike has full Termis (modified and ceramic coated), PCV with auto tune, Ergal 42 tooth rear sprocket, pro stock mapping etc. She is a very technical ride in town and I love every moment of it. :p

Like taking a race horse from the stables to the post, it snorts, bucks and kicks every now and then but it's part of it's charm!

Under full throttle it's smooth as glass.

A good map will fix that. The problem will be to find some one to invest a lot of time to tune the low rpm.

Doug Lofgren did a great job on the Streetfighter to the point that I still run stock gearing without those issues.

The 41sprocket + chain and latest map, only 150€ for the parts, it's as simple as that :)

Ditto on sprocket change and having update done! Made a very noticeable difference to me.

Hi supersport,

Welcome to the forum:)

In answer to your question.
No, the alteration of gearing does absolutely nothing to "help with the power curve".
Sorry:(

Keeping in mind that I have retained and prefer the stock standard gearing.
The cheapest and most expedient options open to you are as follows.
In order of priority.

1) Get the latest update which is current as of this last week or so.
I used to be able to ride the bike down to about 2500 rpm in first gear whilst in traffic with a bit of clutch slipping with the previous version software.
Now with the new update, I can ride down to "below" 2500 rpm in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear with only a little tiny bit of clutch slipping as required. The rest of the ridability factor is vastly improved right throughout the rev range.
(The latest update is free)

2) Start feathering/slipping the clutch as required.
(This is also free)

3) Get a 14 tooth front sprocket.
(This could be regarded as a cheap and nasty "solution", and is not regarded as a "legitimate option" for the 1199 by DUCATI)

4) Get the 41 tooth rear sprocket option.
(It will cost you a bit more, but it is the recommended way to go by DUCATI on the 1199. The cost of which is subsidised for your benefit by DUCATI, and also has it's own specific software update included which is suitable for the stock gearing as well, should you wish to change it back in the future)

5) Get the Termi Slip-on Mufflers.

Cheers:)

I put it in Wet mode when I have to ride at 35 mph in town. As soon as I hit the open road, she goes into sport mode. It makes all the difference in the world, softens up the suspension nicely for such slow speeds, and its free.

This used to anoy the hell out of me when I first got my 1199. I use my 1199 in the city a fair bit as well. Put some k's on it. After 3 or 4 thousand k's my 1199 loosened up and bucking isnt an issue these days (11,000 k's to date).

- feather the clutch
- get the lastest download
- put some k's on it
- Use 195-Hi. Ironically, I find 195-Hi (Race mode) to be smoother than 195-Lo (Sport mode). Maybe just because I naturally sit with higher revs in 195-Hi. Plus 195hi is way more fun.
- lane split. bike is nice an narrow. love the fold in mirrors.

+1 on the 195hi. I ride at low speed quite a bit on my commute and have also found that 195hi is actually better/smoother at very low speeds. And I basically stay our of first gear. I also keep engine braking on 3, lowest level of engine braking. I also plan on switching to 41t rear, but haven't done it yet.
