Just finished fitting one of these up including putting in the gold gel into the seat,

what a job that was, cutting all the foam and then trying to glue down the inner foam and then stretch that cover on and try and staple down.

Looks good though but was a lot of work.

First test ride on Saturday.

i have the dp comfort seat and i wanted to do what you did to the stock seat. the video seamed so easy but now reading this i will save my money.
Thanks for the heads up

I tried the comfort seat but only had it on for 40 minutes as it was just too tall for me.

This job I did across a couple of spare days and it took about 3 hours each session to get it done. About 6 hours total.

I had to buy the staple gun.. You also need some spray glue and a good sharp box cutter. I then used a dremel to make the foam even. It may have been easier if the original cover was actually removable but it is glued down to the foam.

Luimoto

Read all about the issues with mounting this seat cover and had many email conversations with the VP there about it before pulling the trigger on one for my stock seat. HOWEVER- I sent my seat to them to have both the Gold Gel and actual seat cover installed and mounted by the pros! Came out looking and feeling like million bucks!

Also have the DP Comfort Seat too which I love, but was flat out told that their current cover DOES NOT fit the comfort seat and I am not sure if/when they will have one out for it yet. For all I know they do but have no reason to check.

If you are gonna do a seat upgrade I do recommend the Luimoto seat cover WITH the Gold Gel inserts to make it usable. Without them you will just have a good looking stock OEM hard ass piece of wood to sit on while you ride your bike and not have the pleasure of seeing it while you ride, so splurge a bit more and get the gel pads and at least enjoy the ride too!

I agree with Gunny.

I have just the standard cover on the standard seat and makes F all difference for comfort. BUT it does look cool.

I noticed they have a rear cover as well. The pics look like crap. Has anyone seen the rear cover close up??

Gunny is right this job would not be worth doing unless you put the gel in which I did. That is where all the work is.

Hey Gunny how much did I save doing it myself ?

gunny the comfort seat cover is out now but i dont see the reason to purchase it as the comfort seat looks very close.

I bought the Luimoto gold gel as well and finally got round to installing it yesterday and ran into an unexpected problem. Unlike most other seats, i found that the stock seat for my 2012 1199 has it's seat cover glued solid to the foam. So after i undid all the staples, the seat cover couldn't be peeled off the foam. Any advice on how I should proceed? Use a razor to "skin" the seat cover from the foam? How did you do it?

Cheers

just go straight over the top of the old cover. cut the foam out just like the instructions say and leave the rest of the cover on. thats how i did it on mine works fine

then put some waterproof spray on it to help keep water out

I sent them my seat and for $50 they put it in. I had to pay shipping both directions but still worth saving the aggravation of doing it myself. Back and forth from vancouver, a week and a half. Very pleased!!

Btw there is one on FleaBay ready to use. Not my ad, just thought I'd share the info.

Got the cover..

To late for me.... Got it installed professionally ($68.00) and it is not a 100% fit without the gel...:mad: Oh well one side looks pretty good and the other side only shows a little bit of withe and red. In general I am ok'd with the seat.

I did mine without the gel, the cover fit my DP Comfort just fine.

I tried this cover with the gold gel insert, my installation was a little messy to say the least.. I lasted two rides with it and then purchased the race seat and haven't looked back..I found zero comfort with the gel insert. FYI..I'm only 5'7 and have no issues with the height of this seat

There is no aggravation. Its a simple job. Just some time. In fact its very satisfying to do yourself and learn on the way.
