I have a 1299S with the DP Akra with up-map key and I feel the bike rides great and sounds amazing. However after reading the post "got rid of my 1299s" I wonder, am I missing something? I have been riding bike for the better part of 30 years and road raced for 15+ years AMA and WERA. And I feel that my bike runs great. Sure she may be a little hot and not like cruising at 60 mph in 6th. But at no time have I ever felt that I needed Rapid bike or a Tune boy. Is it that I have lost touch with how a bike should run or maybe I have a bike that just so happens to run well with the given exhaust and up-map key? Would like to hear some of you chime in on your thoughts. Thank you in advance.

personal preferences... some people are extremely happy with "minimal(as if the pani is the minimum haha)" and others feel as if t needs more to be better.. or up to there standards(nothing wrong with either)

then there are OTHERS whom standards of an item will never be met...

Maybe with your experience you can appreciate it more than we mortals can. You guys from AMA ride monsters. So maybe you can see the end result when riding the basic machine.

Your missing nothing . My bikes are the same .
I don't do Facebook either and also told that is something I need .
Ability is the key to enjoying your bike seems you must have some .

I love my bike far and have not had any of the issues that I have been reading here so far. I think the 1299/R are the best it has ever been.

For me it's like everything else in life. After some time I tend to forget the bad things and only the good things stay in my head to remember :)
This said I love the Panigale!

I'm really happy with the 1299S and DP Akra system with up-map key on mine too. Its a friggin great bike...period. OK....I was pissed off with the stand for the first 24 hours. I'm over it. If I wanted a Honda 250, I would have bought one.

I'm also totally happy with my 1299S+full Akra+Up-Map OEM calibration. Cannot complain about any surging/stalling, it runs really smooth while cruising (for a twin) and like a missile when pushing. Maybe the 41/15 gearing helps to make it smoother in the lower speeds/revs. OK, below 3,000, its not really smooth any more, but this has been always the case with Ducati Twins.

Luckily there are satisfied owners here. I've really been thinking what is behind all of this bitching and moaning. Whether I am one of the few lucky ones with zero issues. Or if there is some real issue waiting around the corner.

It seems to be that a bunch of Prius-people thought that they want uncompromised superbike, now crying over fuel economy and usability as a commuter bike.

I would say you are more in touch with how a bike should feel and have fine throttle control. I am sure that most of the people who are unsatisfied are used to sanitised four cylinder road bikes.

For me the bike is great as it is. The only upgrade I though was necessary was put on a comfort seat. I definitely will want to get a full Akra system. Not so much for performance gain but for the ti pipes and sound.

I must say it comes down to experience.
I began on a baby twin so I know the difference from Twins to 4's. And I had a V4 which is between both in terms of control. I can see someone complaining how a I4 would handle vs a Twin or V4. It comes down to lack of experience and lack of ability to adapt to the controls very fast. I never ridden a big twin like the ducati's before, and it didn't take me long (1 trip around the block) to really man handle the throttles smoothness, haven't ...... the bike since. BUT, the bike does jerk (and alot like crazy) if you can't handle the throttle, but thats not the bikes problem, thats the riders issue.

People without extensive experience on motorcycles have no business on this bike or any other liter bike.

My particular bike was flawed, I didnt want to waste time getting it sorted so I got rid of it. I know how the bike is suppose to run. I am glad your bike runs great. My 999 ran great, 1098 ran great, my 848 ran great, my Hyper ran great. They all had issues and flaws that could be fixed quicker than 1-3 months.

depends what you mean by experience,10 years of starbucks runs or extensive experience on track/dirt etc

I seriously doubt that the individual bikes are all that different, as far as fuel delivery and handling and such (sure some owners have had oil leaks or whatever but that's a different topic).

The difference lies in peoples perceptions. The folks that are doing the complaining are the folks that bought the 1299 to putz around the street with and commute with. I don't care how "aggressive" of a street rider you think you are - the Panigale was not designed to ride on the street, period. You won't scratch the surface of what it was designed to do or is capable of doing by riding on the street, anywhere.

The serious track day enthusiasts and racers are not the ones complaining. They don't care that the bike stalls pulling out of the Nordstrom parking lot or is snatchy at 23mph in 3rd gear.

True statement!

Funny you say this. I'm no track god at all. Been to some schools, stood on some podiums, nothing crazy. Had the opportunity to do some work with a 1299s that required being on a very tight road (first time on the street in over five years). I hate lugging bikes and just rode it in first gear the majority of the time. Felt fine to me. Didn't experience any of the issues I see complained about here frequently.
