For the peg hangers, shift mechanism and all the other bits of metal in that area, what do people use to clean/polish them ?

My usual metal polish (autosol) doesnt really work on it.

I assume its aluminium cleaner/polish I need ? Any recommendations ?

RBW.

The parts you describe are anodized from factory and it's not possible to actually polish them like one normally would with aluminium.

If your determined to polish those components, the best results will be with a gentle polish that's most suitable for anodizing.
Some metal polishes are not kind to anodizing, and one needs to be a little cautious, as anodizing is intended as a highly durable and maintenance free protective coating on the aluminium.
Ideally it should be preserved/retained as much as possible. Polishing only serves to progressively remove this protective coating.
I would contact the Autosol distributors directly in your market, and ask them what they recommend out of their product range in this application.
I would normally make a recommendation, but the Autosol range has been in a state of flux over the last couple of years and it varies a bit as to what's available in different markets around the world.

Seriously though, I have never polished mine in over 2 years and the parts you describe look exactly the same as when the bike was new.
I personally consider them to be maintenance free.
You don't need to do anything other than a normal wash and wipe down, and of course some regular lubrication of the movable parts;)

As Brad rightly says, don't use any coarse abrasive polishes, which Autosol is. You will compromise the anodised coating eventually, then you'll be facing much bigger problems, with aluminium oxide building up and furring of the forged components.

A little WD-40 will take the grime off and keep it looking good.

It won't polish it of course but it will take the oil and road grime off.

:D

I recommend buffing with a microfiber rag sprayed with pledge, followed with any decent wax product for metal. On threads and exposed joints use a little oil. WD-40 at minimal.

When you use pledge for the first time you will wonder why you never tried it before.

But please re wipe any area with a following product.

Brake cleaner works better than WD40, no grease in it at all and it doesn't damage paint or anodizing.

If the shifter and pegs have got dirty, I can only assume you've been riding your beautiful 1199 on those filthy UK roads!!!

Don't do that, coz it will get dirty. Period.

If you're looking for that showroom shine, just try a can of "Don't Ride" :D:D:D

j/k - we all love cleaning our bikes :p
