Took a nice rip with my business partner (he on his new Diavel) and me on the Bayliss. Ambient temp at 8am....~36 'F.

Poor hook up on tires especially where trees shaded the parkway from the rising sun rays.

Wished I had the DQS on the 1098R, as it climbs so fast throughout the rpms and that pure no clutch shift of the Pani made me wish I hadn't sold it before the R gets delivered.

What a great feature the DQS is. Don't know how I lived without one for all of my prior years riding. The 1199S has spoiled me and the Bayliss showed me today how much more rider control input and error correction has been taken away from the Pani overall.

Side by side; the Bayliss demands much more input and correction for over zealous throttle input as well it's lack of intrusive DTC on the level the Pani has. it had DTC, but one wouldn't know compared to the Pani.

The Pani allows one to experience SuperBike euphoria while minimizing the risks that are inherent in all of the preceding super bikes in the line. It is masking so much of our errors. All of us.

I give props to the gents who could wring the living daylights out of the previous R models.

The 1098R is making me a better rider each day which hopefully will translate into better response out of and confidence in the anticipated new R.

Now where the he'll is my bike? :D

I feel dumb to ask this but, now I've got to ask. Everyone rants ands raves about DQS. This option has confused me a bit ever since we've owned these bikes. I haven't noticed any difference with the DQS. Am I not using it right? I have gone clutchless when in high performance situations (race track) ever since my first track day on a 996.
Can you please explain in detail how the DQS differs from not using a clutch on a 996/1098 or any other ride? (maybe I already know and take it for granted)

with the quick shift, the electronics interrupts the fuel flow for a milisecond when the sensor picks up on pressure on the gear lever, in other words while accelerating and upshifting as the rider, you don't need to use the clutch or throttle(ie no blip needed) as the ecu manages the throttle so you don't need to close the throttle. It's an absolute blast on the track. This is for UPSHIFTING only, not downshifting.

Also, you do need to make sure your DQS is on, for the life of me and I'm not on the bike now, I can't remember but I think your dash will tell you if dqs is off.

Right, and spark - the point is there is no physical pressure gear-to-gear when they start to move. You can clutchless-shift with any bike w/o this, it is just hell on your gears.

Yes the dash states DQS on or off.

This was kinda my thoughts. Which is why I wasn't all that excited as everyone else on the forum. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad there is no wear on the gearbox now. Felt I've always been doing clutchless quick shifts.

Gman, if you've been preloading the shifter and rolling off the throttle to unload the gears like clutchless upshifting is normally done in sequential boxes, then you wouldn't notice much, if any difference. Pani shifts very well like that with DQS off anyway.

What DQS lets you do is just move the shifter while keeping the throttle pinned. All it does is cut the spark/fuel for a split second to unload the gears; same as a quick blip, just faster and more repeatable and accurate. Find somewhere appropriate, pin it and just move the lever; all will be immediately clear!

ahhhhhh! That turned the bulb on. Old habits are hard to break. I've been barely releasing the throttle between gears. This will help out greatly in third gear. Third seems sooo short down the straights.

p.s. Trama/Zvez I know you were explaining it the same way after re-reading, thanks.

Hi,

You can always bolt a quick-shifter onto the 1098R, pretty easy install and a few companies manufacture them.

I have a Translogic QS on my 998R.

Cheers,

Harry.

Problem is I would have to cut a hole in the CF fairings to do so. The entire bike is CF, every bit! (somewhere, Gunny is getting a chubby!)

You could buy an aftermarket belly pan or an OE 848 belly pan to modify and wrap the CF belly pan up and put it away (stop it from getting beaten up).

Cheers,

Harry.
