I'm changing my 1299R FE oil in-between my service intervals and choosing the oil.
Mobil 1 4T is 10w40 and specific for motorcycles and shared tranny etc
However given I ride in hot Georgia, I'd thought to use a 15W50 grade. That's available by Mobil 1 but not motorcycle specific.

On the other hand I could ask the dealer what they use and just keep it consistent.

Thoughts?

I have used both Mobil 1 4T and Motul 300V 15W50 in SoCal hot summers. Both are fine. My dealer uses 300V.

Lately I have been ordering Motul 300V 15W50 4 Liters off Amazon, under $58 Shipped.

Related question. Do you replace the crush washer each time. (Online source?) and it appears some mechanics use a silicone sealant on the threads? Never done that on a drain plug.

I order the filter kit off Ducati Dealers from Amazon. Includes the cartridge filter, crush washer and 2 O rings. I never use sealant, I simply clean the mating surfaces, threads, and torque to spec. Never had any leaks.

Be sure to clean all surrounding areas near the drain plug as they catch oil when you drain. Any oil that that is not cleaned will drip causing you to think you may have a leak.

Thanks. Given I have a maintenance contract. I planned just a fluid change without filter. Gives me new oil @ 3500 miles vs 7000

If you are dumping the oil, then change the filter. The filter and filter cavity retain a lot of oil and dirt - you will be be mixing the old with the new. Not a good idea.

Yeah. Good idea. I will just order the amazon kit

Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W-50, it is safe for wet clutch and also has more Phosphorus (1600PPM) and Zinc (1750PPM) than the Racing 4T (the main anti-wear agents). Since it's warm weather cold flow of 15 vs 20 won't make a big difference.

I will have to look at Motul specs. For basically $25 more I can use the Motul. And on such an expensive bike, that's obviously nothing. Assuming the Motul is a better choice.

I used Motul 300v last year. I got a smoking deal on shell/Ducati Oem oil so I used that this time. Never again!!! The clutch doesn't shift smooth, downshifts slip and aren't instant. Not bad but noticeably.

the 10 15 or 20 w means nothing. at temperature they will all act the same. its the 30 40 50 or even 60 number that maters. in the summer a 5w40 is the same as a 10w40. a 10w50 is the same as 15w50 or 20w50. the w is the winter action how it acts in cold temperatures.

Thanks, I guess I should have put no difference to appease everybody, seeing as that was the point I was eluding to with warm weather and cold flow in my reply. :D.

Then it comes down to how does that twin formula compare to Motul 300v

oil for the Panigale

11,000miles or so on my 2012 1199s. Half/more of those on the track. Change my oil every 2 track days, about 250 miles. I use Shell Rotella T6
5-40. $20/gallon at several places. Change the filter every 2 oil changes. I will probably change the crush washer if it ever starts to leak. The bike clutch and transmission feel perfect.

Lots of good choices, this is what works for me.

Good to hear. I bought the Motul and decided to make it simple and just swap the fluid. No filter. Same crush washer. It's just an extra change in between my paid for service intervals.

So you decided to be mix old different brand and grade dirty oil and filter with the fresh Motul? What exactly are you accomplishing? Your bike your engine.

Where did you buy the 1299 filter kit. Didn't see it on amazon. Saw V4 kit
