Bought a 2012 monster 1100 evo that needs work, trying to figure out if I need to split the case or not.
At idle in neutral, it has a horrible horrible clanking sound (sounds like a bolt or something rattling around inside the engine), when the clutch is depressed I can feel the clanks coming through the clutch line to the clutch lever. Shifting into gear from neutral causes the motor to lockup/stop even with the clutch pulled. Bike will not start when in gear even with the clutch pulled. Some times, when I put the bike into third of fourth, the bike will not make a sound and act normal and can move the bike normally by feathering the clutch. However sometimes third and fourth go back to locking up / refusing to start and making the clanking noise.
putting it in gear and pushing it, I can hear the engine turning / compression/ not locked up. Bike moves fine with engine off and clutch pulled in. Engine just will not run with the clutch pulled in and in gear.
I've been searching, and haven't found anything like this (the bike is not stuck in gear). Trying to figure out what this is so I know if I need to split the case, pull a cover, or replace the engine.
