MotoGP at PI *Spoilers*

Surprisingly I didn't see any threads about this, but I think it should be discussed.....

What did you guys think of the crazy PI race???

Personally, I was pretty disappointed. I highly prefer motorcycle racing to be line to line with no pit stops in any way, plus the confusion, the danger inherent in having to re-enter the track with people coming down the straight at those speeds.....just a bad idea all around. On top of that, I hate it when logistics and confusion end up possibly deciding or having a big effect on the title race. I believe that purely racing should effect the title race.

....that being said, we saw Jorge's bike switch, Dani's bike switch, and Marc's bike switch, but I keep hearing about Nicky Hayden's bike switch being some incredible feat - some how he switch a FULL SECOND faster than everyone else!!?? and there's no video of it to be found!!!! I wanna see it!!!!!

There is no video because Ducati quashed it. What really happened is Hayden jumped off his POS GP 13 and ran down the pits trying like mad to jump on somebody else's bike thinking he could finally get in the top 10.

i think the race was entertaining but very very dangerous and very political. MM IMO is not liked even though he is darna's future. he just doesnt care about the stuff that Darna wants him to care about much like stoner. They need to make the race and championship competitive. Ive never seen a black flag given for missing a pit stop. ride through seconds or maybe a mark on the license starting MM at the end of the field next race.

so now its 18 point difference still hard to come back for jlo but that means MM cant crash out (if he didnt crash while in second place in the beginning of the year this wouldnt have mattered)

True, but remember Jorge had a DNS in Germany also.

yes he did but that was from injury not because the governing body said so.
MM had a dnf that would be 20 more points when he crashed on last lap. im just saying how did the racers not know what would happen to them if they missed the pit. i can assure you if they said in the meeting if you dont pit on lap 10 you would be black flagged he would have pitted.

amazing how him and jlo collide at 200 mph and nothing happend except a broken lever guard.

there was a race? i thought Bridgestone ran out of rubber after the first training, where they tried to fill the canyons in the tires

Yes, well you mentioned him crashing out earlier this year, and I simply pointed out JLO had an unfortunate incident that caused him to miss all points as well, so when you say it would be less consequential if he just hadn't of crashed out earlier this year while in 2nd place I think you also have to take into account if JLO hadn't had that DNS. I wasn't referring to any decisions made by race direction.

I agree they should have known, but overall I think the whole weekend was embarrassing for Dorna and somewhat for Bridgestone as well though who knows how much control they had over opportunities to test on the new pavement.

Also, I think it's a bit dishonest to say they collided at 200mph, it wasn't head on. From the video it looks like they didn't even hit that hard. We all know how the stability of motorcycles is hard to determine. There are times racers can take a big hit and it's like nothing happened, and then other times when the hit seems smaller and it ends badly, like in the Moto3 race when Miguel Oliveira runs into someone much slower and ends up going flying over his handlebars.

That was the most exciting race of the year for me. The mandatory pit stop was very unusual and I'm sure nobody involved wanted it be required as it looks the worst for Bridgestone, but good on them for putting safety first.

Marc's taking the race line immediately after pit-out was so perfect to his personality. Are we sure he knew that JL and DP were blasting down the straight when he was rejoining the track? It was tremendous skill (probably luck too) that JL was able to just give MM a love tap mid corner instead of going down, I was waiting in the next few corners for a Pedrosa-style highside after the TC cable had been cut yet again. Afterward, I envisioned a smile inside JL's helmet as he thought to himself "payback's a bitch, Marc" for their tangle earlier this year.

I also agree with Mark that the black flag was surprising. Mark is spot on as the commentators didn't discuss any knowledge of the penalty for going over the 10 lap maximum in stint 1. It did seem like a rash decision where a ride through would have been more appropriate, as PI's pit lane is pretty long so it would have been about a 20-30 second penalty. Don't know about the conspiracy theory though.

Tell you what, Jorge Lorenzo has turned my opinion around about him. When he burst onto the scene and was copying Vale's post-race wacky celebrations, I disliked him. But he has proven to be the consummate fighter, that never gives up and perseveres to victory. If he is able to pull off this year's championship, he will be my new favorite rider. Even if he doesn't, he's earned tremendous respect for being the underdog that fought hard against the superior Honda juggernaut.

all i am saying is that the riders safety was of the last concern of moto gp. cold tires merging from pit lane takes a lap to get the tires warm. bridgestones not being able to work. if darna cared about riders safety and not money they would have cxled the race till they could get real tires.

if josh hayes jumps a start he gets a 5 second penalty. they dont do that in motogp they give a ride through but a black flag come on.

i do agree the race was entertaining. i agree with what mac said it wasnt a collision but same thing happened last week and pedrosa highsided.

they should have made it a 5 lap bicycle race...
