My S (w/ABS) is arriving next week, and I'm trying to figure-out the best solution for mounting my radar detector. I'm thinking of using this mount from Adaptiv (AdaptivMountâ„¢ Sportbike Mount Type D (D-01-16) [D-01-16] - $95.00 : Adaptiv Technologies - TPX Motorcycle Radar and Laser Detection System) that goes into the location of the steering stem nut (the steering stem nut must be removed).

I have a few questions:

1) Does anyone know whether the steering stem nut on the 1199 is the same as it is on the 1198? I know that this mount fits the 1198.

2) Assuming the mount fits, and that the mounting plate (which the radar detector will sit on) is positioned an inch or two above the steering stem nut, could one of you with a bike in your hands let me know if you think the radar detector will have a clear line of sight through the windshield (i.e., will it be positioned higher than the dash?).

3) Assuming no problem with #2 above, do you think the radar detector will interfere with the ability to see the dash?

4) Any thoughts on a better solution?

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

gotta love a country that allows you to have a radar detector. They'll take our kids away, throw us in jail and fine us for our life savings if we get caught with one of those here.

Yes, we have some rights but not all states allow them, Virginia and I believe DC prohibits them.

My personal experience is they aren't very useful. Ohio uses lasers, and since lasers don't scatter like radio waves, it's pretty much a waste of time.

But don't misunderstand the USA, we imprison a far higher % of our population than everyone else. We are #1 in this category and Australia is #114.

USA still has freedom of speech though ;)
