Moving over from 1299S, initial setup of V4S for Track usage

Hi fellas,
I finally made the move to switch over from my beloved 1299S to a 2019 V4S, both including an Akra Full Ti System.
I am a decent Track Day addict with 2:27s at COTA or 1:33s at Barber and I just bought the V4S, (stock, except for the Akra).

Now my questions to other quick track addicts or racers:
1. What are your thoughts on a 520 chain conversion on that bike? And if it makes sense, what gearing would you recommend?
2. What are your thoughts on a stiffer shock spring? I am 210lbs with full gear and it looks like I would need to replace that stock 95N/mm to a 105N/mm spring to match my weight.
3. How should I initially setup the suspension for the V4S as a starting point? Maybe someone has a good baseline for me...
4. What are your thoughts on ride height? Coming from my 1299S with Race Seat, to me the V4S (that has a "Speciale" Seat) feels like I am sitting way too low. Is that what it just is or whats your feeling around that?

Thanks so much for your support and I will see some of you at COTA with 3:16 in 3 weeks. :)

I would try it out as is. In my experience, my V4 liked a softer rear spring. Running a DU 468 Ohlins rear. I am probably about 180-190 lbs with gear. I moved down to 80-85N spring. With a 90-95N spring, I had a really bad rear "pogo" affect. I saw some people here on the forums had the same issue and my suspension tech suggested going with a softer spring.

I'd suggest go ride it as is, and see where the problems are to improve on.

Def try as is.
520 always worth it, but small gain.
Sounds counter intuitive, but try shortening the shock length.

interestingly when ducati went from that 2019 bike to the then latest innovation 2020 they shortened the length of the tie bars by 5mm, and increased the length of the shock to 312... ;)

that said when you change the chain and try to get a longer wheel base ( if Pierobon offer to lengthen the swing arm by 35mm that would suggest longer is better) the rear eccentric goes down and up a difference of 12mm depending where you are in the rotation, so all to be considered with ride height!

The general rule is corner entry front of the bike, corner exit back of the bike. Longer swing arms usually give less grip on exit. But the gains in high speed stability and reduced wheelie might be worth it. The relationship between sag, pivot height, linkage ratios, shock length and swingarm length are pretty important which is why all the good guys measure these things meticulously and have a lot of notes!

I fitted the 2020 tie rod arms to my V4R, didn't feel a huge difference tbf. If sny actually

So giving one bit of information is a bit useless then without all the other….??

All I can say is, I took the tie rod off my 2019 V4R, held it against the 2020 onwards tie rod, and there was 5mm difference.

When I go on Ducati Parts.com:

V4R - 37211983AA
V4 2020+ - 37212211AA

Maybe different specs Stateside?

Thanks so much so far to everyone.

1. So, I will leave the bike as is and go to COTA for my first two days.
How should I setup my Race Mode? Anyone has good suspension settings that I should dial in for a start?

2. I checked, my links on the bike are the 37211983AA.

3. Anyone has information on my "Speciale" seat or my seat height in general? I measured it and even with my 200/65 in the rear, the seat height is 820mm and not 830mm.

I’m at most COTA track days and I’ll be there July 2/3. Other COTA regulars here include @RODOLFO and @TomFoolery.

Depends what you mean by giving information, you are mentioning there is geometry effect from the eccentric chain adjuster, sure it comes with SSSA territory but in that context without giving the practical limit where ride height adjustment becomes necessary, it's just more confusing info for us amateurs. Adjusting the chain to allow for normal wear might vary height by a millimeter or so, not enough to notice and certainly on a par with tire wear. Changing gearing easily becomes a noticeable difference in swing arm angle, the same as chucking 35mm more onto the swingarm. The longer the swingarm for a given wheelbase usually the better because the angle is less affected by suspension travel but the manu's do it by moving the pivot forward. I was thinking about this the other day looking at my swingarm and it struck me how long it was, like a motocrosser!
