Hello all,

I saw a thread with fmvolume but decided to start a new one. I am excited to move to Monterey but have few questions for those live around there. I am coming back from overseas (in Asia) and will be living in Monterey for just short 2 years for school (NPS).

I like a recommendation where to live, places to go for riding and any general helpful info.

I think Laguna Seca is right next door. I've been to southern cali few times where my best friends live and hit the race track there but never been up north this far.

As mentioned on other thread, i sent a request on Facebook to join the ducati northern california group.

Also, I will be shopping for some new/used bikes. Any recommendation of dealership around? or do you guys go down south to for the dealership?

You lucky Dog.!!

Monterey is a fantastic place. As you said, it's right by Laguna Seca and on one of the greatest highways in the World, HIGHWAY 1. The views in all directions are amazing. If you head North, you have San Francisco, Marin County, Napa, Sonoma, the coastal road from the a Golden Gate Bridge up past Stinson beach, Bolinas, Point Reyes, Bodega Bay and on up to Mendocino is freaking amazing.

At almost every turn, there are vistas and places of interest. There are dozens and dozens of incredible roads that lead from the coast inland... Some of the best roads I have ever ridden.

There is also Sears Point/Sonoma Raceway and even further North, Thunderhill Raceway.

If you go South from Monterey, there is majestic and inspiring Big Sur, with never ending views of the Pacific. You can ride on down the coast to Santa Barbara, Los Angeles and San Diego all within an easy 1/2 day ride. Hearsts Castle is another place, as well as Solvang.

Basically, you are bang in the middle of one of the greatest places on the Planet to ride, with 5 brilliant racetracks available to you ( Laguna Seca, Willow Springs, Buttonwillow, Sears Point/Sonoma Raceway and Thunder-hill).

At the weekends in the Summer, you can head up North to Alice's Restaurant and see 300 plus Sportbikes all parked and ready to ride, after a nice hearty breakfast... You will meet a ton of great people that way (and quite a few squids as well).

Cheers and enjoy the HELL out of being in Monterey.

Thank you for the info. I'm more excited now. I be sure to hit as much track days as possible since most likely I won't be living in Cali for years to come until maybe after I retire. :D

When you pick up a bike, keep in mind Laguna Seca has a noise limit. 90 dBA I think. You'll want to be flexible about changing out mufflers or quiet inserts. Tons of great mountain riding around the aforementioned Alice's Restaurant. Highway 35 is great and so is highway 9. Do keep in mind riders have gotten killed out there between the traffic and some blind tight corners taken too enthusiastically.
