So i went from charleston upto Ashville nc
took 5 hours on the way up i was doing 80--85 and my gas millage was about 33 mpg

on the way back same speed, and my gas millage was 45 mpg

it was such a large difference i am kinda shocked.

for reference SC is the flattest state in existence.

has anyone else experienced this?

Temp and other factors change that number. BTW Florida is the flattest state lol

I've seen mine change from 32mpg in sport mode at 40d and normal riding to 39mpg in race mode at 58d.. So take it with a grain of salt dude. I have noticed it seems to get better gas mileage the more fun you have with it.

interesting.

when i go from Greenville to Charleston and back, my MPG on the way back is always better. but that's because i strive to get to the beach and drive home relaxed after the beach.

but to prove your theory, you went from sea level into the mountains, so that required more energy in total than going from the mountains back to sea level.

(my physics professor had us calculate once, how many slices of toast it takes to being able to climb the Mt. Everest :D )

Also, a major factor could be head or tailwind. and of course that you lost 15 lbs while riding in the mountains.

At one point i would regularly drive from Dallas to Atlanta and back...I always got better mileage coming back to Dallas than going... I never did understand why... 10% better is significant too...

i thought about the elevation change could be it
what kind of MPG's do you all get when riding CIVIL on the highway

personally i am kinda upset about the range of the bike as is. its my only major non fixable gripe.

Range is fine for me...100+ and I am ready fro a 10 min break anyway...Think 1199 is bad look at the Vmax lol:D

Head wind? :)

My bike is pretty solid in the 34-36mpg range average, with highway riding & zipping along on the back roads in 2-3 gear. The high was in the low 40mpg just highway riding into work.
As mentioned, I am ready to get off & stretch

Beat the RSV4 i had, it managed a steady 28-32mpg combined. 90 miles that light was on!
