Hey Guys,

My great luck and I got a nail in my tire with 2000 miles on my rear. After checking the price on the Corsas and seeing that they are expensive as ...., I was gonna try the Bridgestone RS10s. Anyone ever try them.

Keep in mind I don't have twisties, the bike will never see the track, and usually ride streets and highways. No canyons cause I live in the prairies of Canada. I have a trackbike for the track.

Thanks

you could always plug it. On my first S1000RR, I wasn't feeling like paying $500 that they were charging in Korea (where I was living) for a Metzeler replacement. So I just plugged it and prayed. It held for 4000 miles, including quite a few top speed runs.

But clearly, the Hand of God held that plug in, forgiving my cheapness, but just that once.

my very first tire on the 1199 caught a nail after 250 miles

i put on a new one and rode and rode and rode...

kept the nailed one... patched it from the inside - and ran it until its end. that including a trackday at road atlanta with top speed ~180 mph...
no problem at all.

but as said - the tire was off and patched from the inside, not plugged.

If you want good tires that last long, look into the Pilot Road 4's. Hard center and soft on the side. Just be sure to warm them up before you get spirited. If you get stuck riding in the rain, they have no issues. I had a set on my spare rims when I had the R1 and its the perfect touring tire.

Please check your PM's Mikro!

Its hard for me to run with a nail / hole in any of my tires but as Phil stated, if done properly I guess you have peace of mind man!

The Pirelli Man - Fitz!

Changed this one out from a friend's 899 Panigale a week or so ago.

The PR4's are good tires for longevity and still have good side grip.

I can go one better than Phil's 250 mile puncture, sadly.

I put a new set of Pirelli Super Corsa's on my Bimota Db2. I'd used a 4mm 1/4" drive Allen socket.

When I dropped my front end off the stand, I didn't notice the socket. As I wheeled the bike forward, I heard a clunk. Not only did the Allen puncture the tire before one full revolution it also took a chunk out of the carbon fiber front mudguard.

I bought a new tire........At the time I didn't even know about patching or plugging tires.

Whats the little piece of wood Chris? Just showing the spot where it was patched?

Cant believe an allen "Socket" of all things punctured the tire that easily! WOW! :(

I will end up plugging it so I can at least ride. Being a back tire, not as worried about it compared to if it was the front.

Ordered a set of rs10s.

Here's a pic. Sucks.

I have done some silly things as well.

Wow; that is pretty good. Generally, I am lucky if I get 2,000 miles out of a Pirelli SuperCorsa SC before it is just plain worn out.

That tire looks fantastic for 2000 miles; perhaps that was a typo and was meant to be 200 miles?

You must live somewhere with a curve :( lol

The picture you see in post #6, with the nail through the tire. I tested this patch kit, $5 from amazon.com. The patch went on and I think would work fine and be safe, but I didn't like how the tread was a bit messed up on the outside, so I haven't reused the tire.

Have been feeling that the front wallows through corners, checked tyre pressures today and the rear has a nail in it. Nice.
I have 3800km on the OEM sc's and they still look great.... Not sure if I will keep it.... Probably safer to replace. My tire letters cost more than the Tire....

My responses are limited, you have to ask the right questions.

So, I have a nail pretty much the same size as above. Do you patch or replace? Just street riding really, but what does that mean? I do over 200 often, over 250 not so often and I hit the mountains over weekends.... Biggest problem is probably trust, don't want to think about it in the back of my mind. I have done 3800km on this rear and it looks good, I am really impressed by this tire. Had rosso II on my triumph and loved them as well.... Never had a puncture either....Maybe I patch this one and have fun on it for the next 1200km then replace on a nice round 5000km. Thoughts?

How do you get 3800km out of a rear tire. Does the rubber regrow overnight?

All kidding aside, I would make a decision based upon the size of the hole the the nail has made.

If I'm seeing the nail head down in the sipe and the nail hole is very small in diameter , you could probably patch it from the inside and put a few gobs of glue in the hole on the outside.

That area is not going to get wear from the road until the tire is worn out.

The real concern is not whether the patch will hold air, but more the integrity of the tire carcass under the heat and flexing during normal riding.

But me, at 3800km, I've already had to replace that tire twice.....:)
