Nail in Tire

you could always plug it. On my first S1000RR, I wasn't feeling like paying $500 that they were charging in Korea (where I was living) for a Metzeler replacement. So I just plugged it and prayed. It held for 4000 miles, including quite a few top speed runs.

But clearly, the Hand of God held that plug in, forgiving my cheapness, but just that once.

Plug *and* patch is actually very safe

As stated before, I patched one tire before from the inside, did hooligan tours and 180mph at road ATL ...

I properly patched a Pirelli in a pinch. Patched Pirelli performed properly at the track! [emoji106]

How do you get 3800km out of a rear tire. Does the rubber regrow overnight?

All kidding aside, I would make a decision based upon the size of the hole the the nail has made.

If I'm seeing the nail head down in the sipe and the nail hole is very small in diameter , you could probably patch it from the inside and put a few gobs of glue in the hole on the outside.

That area is not going to get wear from the road until the tire is worn out.

The real concern is not whether the patch will hold air, but more the integrity of the tire carcass under the heat and flexing during normal riding.

But me, at 3800km, I've already had to replace that tire twice.....:)

This was the first set of tires and I did break in by the book, that means the first 1700km saw very gentle use. But I agree, enough km's, so I replaced. I thought of patching the old one as a spare, the shop did a mushroom plug, but the technician who did it said he would not recommend using the tire seeing as it is a very soft compound and they have had abnormal wear issues with this tire and mushroom plug. So I left it there, literally.

Balanced front and rear, going for a ride this morning!

I agree with those that recommended the patch. Should be fine. Chris E knows what he's talking about. He's kind enough to mount all my tires along with my recent RS10's that I can wholeheartedly recommend.

Love them on the street and just tried them out at the track last weekend with Chris E. Performed very well. They don't last as long as the Supercorse's but a nice alternative.
