I know..... you guys did this a thousand times before.
But I didn't, and I am so excited about it.... stripping down my Tricolore 2012.
It's awesome to see how it looks (and where all the dirt collects :( ).

Engine has about 8500km, pistons and cylinder shells are going to be replaced under warranty. Oil consumption was pretty remarkable. When I saw this bike on the operation table, I really recognized how much I like the Panigale. Some mechanical parts are sooo incredibly beautifully made!

Important: I never raced this babe, but one of the monocoque bolts was loose. There's a great thread about this issue, so please check it out!

You're a brave man. Besides tinkering with fairings and rearsets, I am not touching this puppy. At least until warranty runs out.

8500kms?! Yikes...

Do continue to share the progress and photos.

What happened to them? Should I be concerned?!

No, not at all. It was a problem from the beginning, but not grave. the bike always performed great. I just had to pour in oil more than others. Ducati accepted this case as a warranty issue. Perfect, no complaints.

Thanks, but it has nothing to do 'bout bravery. Due to the fact that I am an engineer, an Airforce aircraft mechanic and a presicion instrument maker, and not a complete ....... :), I have the rewarding task to support the dealers Ducati master technician doing his job.
I really appreciate this very much and its a wonderfull way to learn more about this bike!

I am so excited that I forgot to mention the coolest thing: On the Panigale, cylinder shells and pistons can be exchanged without completely opening the engine. Very cool mechanical design!

That is truly cool

Can you list the aftermarket upgrade? Top clamp, remote brake adjuster, shock linkage pieces, etc.? Nice!

gosh! that's a monster question...
most bolts replaced with Ti from ProBolt, Proti and Ebay sellers, others if mechanical acceptable with polished INOX screws. All plastic replaced with CF parts from Ilmberger, Bestem, Shifttech, Lieb, Carbonvani etc. Complete redesign of the front section, using parts from Ducabike, Dion Device, Gilles, Stahlbus, Bitubo etc.
Air filter MWR, brake disks from Sicom, all exhaust ceramic parts from Ilmberger, crash pads from GSG, clutch slave cylinder and other parts from CNC Racing, wheels Rotobox. Tubes from Saint-Gobain and Samco, COX radiator guard, Rizoma mirrors and rear set, some DP parts, all available Evotech parts except the clutch housing protetor, a lot of custom made aluminium parts, etc.
Some OEM bronzed parts hard-chromed.

To answer your question:
Top clamp from Evotech (super company and products in Italy), Remote brake adjuster from Gilles Tooling (super products and ...... company in Germany), shock linkage from Ducabike (super company in Italy). Parenthesized comments reflect my personal experiences.

I did not track all the things i've done to this bike, it's just a funny hobby I'm doing since 2 years... and still its not painted yet :)

How much strip down is needed to check these bolts?

I sometimes hear a resonance/rattle around 6k rpm, which I'm still trying to track down.

It's a bit of a PITA if you want to do it "cleanly". Same procedure as for changing or cleaning the air filter, you need full access to the inside of the airbox (which is the monocoque). Remove the upper side fairings (to be able to handle the venting hoses to the fuel tank), saddle and ignition key cover. Then you have to remove the fuel tank, very carefully to keep the fuel connector sealings unharmed.

In regards to the fuel fitting mentioned, when you reinstall it make sure you listen for the "click", and then twist one of the halves back and forth a bit to insure you have fully seated the two halves together. If there is any resistance whatsoever, then put a tiny bit of oil or lithium grease on your fingers to lube the very small o-ring on the fitting. Fuel leaks, as have been reported on this forum, tend to be a "bit problematic" to say the least!!

Thank you for the great pictures and informations :)

How much is "remarkable" with oil consumption?

Have a nice evening

The funny thing is it was never constant... worst was one tour to the Dolomites: almost a liter per 100km. And strangely no white smoke or smell, and the engine works like a swiss clock, just much faster and louder :)

G, what is the cause & solution for the oil consumption issue? my bike consumes quite a bit too (not as much as yours!). It is under warranty but my dealer is reluctant to look into it

Some of the hooks on the bolts of the extraction tool for the cylinder shell broke :(
So there was a delay until the new parts arrived from Bologna.
Today vertical cylinder/piston have been changed and now it's putting everything together :)
