Hey All,

What would you do....

This morning on my commute into work I had a very pleasant, kind, courteous lady pass me on the left shoulder of I-55 S. This sandwiched me between herself and a semi, with inches to spare, as she was half in my lane. I backed off and let her through at which point I noted her license plate and vehicle description. I kept my distance and followed her until my exit for I-80 E exchanging morning salutations as I drove past.

In harsher words this ..... tried to kill me and I really wanted to retaliate at the moment however physics is never kind in a 10:1 weight ratio competition. I kept my cool and was hoping to pass a cop along the way.

That all said; I do have her plate and a solid description of the vehicle. Would you file a complaint with the state police? Let Karma takes its course??

A complaint with the SP seems futile and a waste of time since an officer did not witness the incident.

What other (legal) options would you consider?

Nothing at all. Chalk it up to an experience. Cop won't do .... about it, especially with just words and no proof. Total waste of time. All you can do is remain alert and/or invest in a gopro like device.

That sucks, unfortunately everyone is right. There isn't anything the cops can do without proof. +1 on the gopro idea.

We've all been in situations like that. I have stopped and had words with people because I'm stubborn and stupid. Best to let it go and not do anything.

No proof, let it go. How would you feel if someone reported you for something and you got a summons with no proof?

yeah like mentioned above, nothing you can really do.

How about mounting a Camera (Go Pro) to your helmet, and if this ever happen again, you will then have an evidence in the future.

Back in the day a good friend of mine named Wino always had 2 or 3 railroad spikes rubber banded to his belt just for situations like that. He could whip one off his belt and through someones window in a flash, a bit extreme but he was a psycho.

In regard to Louisiana you can most certainly do something. You can call 911 and give them the information, ask for a traffic cop. YOU would sign as the complainant on the ticket (Usually where the officer signs) and the Officer or Deputy signs the witness block. It compels the suspect, he or she to go to court, and you get to tell a judge. The Officer/Deputy just issues it.

Now...that's the complete legal way it happens. Thats how it would happen 10 years ago. Unfortunately modern L.E. will try to talk you out of it and say there is "nothing they can do" and then you say "Cool, I'd like to talk to your rank", they say "he/she will tell you the same thing"..You say "Are you refusing to call your rank ? Thats a violation of your SOP"....they call rank and you are now 50/50 on it. Unfortunate but thats the failure of the FTO system and what we are left with.

Good luck.

NOLA

One thing sticks in my mind at times like this...."I had the right-of-way!!!" will look really stupid on my headstone.

A bike jacket with a small handful of marbles or pennies are things kicked up on the road like flying debris too.

Either back off and out or ride it like ya own it and put FAR space between yourself and ANY hazardous vehicles. Nuff said. Stay safe.
