Hello everyone, I'm new here. I bought a used 2021 Panigale V2 with 3000 miles. Is it ok to install new brake pads with scraped brake pistons and rotor? I am attaching the pics. Please tell me what should I do. Thank you.

That is a no on re-using the rotor or installing new pads to use on the rotor. The raised material on the rotor will tear into the new brake pads and cause uneven wear. The wear will continue until the brake pads gradually lose their material at a much faster rate, putting the hardware back into the spot you're in now.

How does the rear brake caliper piston feel when you press the brake, is it rough/slow/firm or do the pistons extend/retract evenly and smooth? I would recommend replacing the pistons as you can see uneven wear on left piston, but the caliper itself may of suffered heat damage from the use of metal on metal brakes. If there's discoloration (bluing/yellowing) under the pistons you should replace the caliper.

OEM rotor is the Brembo Oro series - you may have a tough time loosening the rotor bolts due to the increased torque on the rotor, used during the metal/metal braking. The bolts are soft metal and strip very easily, I've had to drill rotor bolts to get the wheel free and then run a tap through the wheel threads. You'll also be removing the ABS ring from the old rotor so those bolts will need to be replaced also - you've got quite the maintenance list to rebuild the wheel, rear rotor and ABS ring

if you wanna do it right you should Sicom it...carbon on carbon ftw, no need for double the work!

You need new rotor, pad and to rebuild the caliper with new pistons and seals with dust seal too. Rebuilding caliper is not hard, but if you are not good with such things take it to a person who can. To get the rotor off is not a quick easy thing either as the wheel comes off and so does the hub assembly. If you’re not good with these kind of things, take it to a shop. Could cost you close to 1k for parts and labor.

Hope you got a deal on that V2. Also hope it’s not going to keep on biting you in the .... That rear brake looking like that isn’t a good sign

its a relatively straightforward job but you will need a few tools. Nothing special except a rattle gun, a 55mm socket and a heatgun or similar.

What kind of person rides around with a rear brake like that with no pads WFT???, As mentioned check the rest of the bike out carefully but change the oil and filter immediately!

What I find weird about this is who uses the rear brake? Useful for tightening your line, maybe dragging it a little on dirt or gravel. Have the front brakes been used? That being said this ain't the first ducati the rear pads have fallen out of.

Front brake pads have still 90% life and front rotors are perfect.

Pads fell out. Previous owner didn't notice. Sold the bike because the brake didn't work. LA bike?
