Sup, folks? New member here. I've been reading as much as I can on the 1199 and 1299. I've always liked the engineering/design aspects of Ducati Superbikes, but hearing or reading about the reliability, maintenance/repair costs steered me away in years past. However, I'm sure that was not the case with everyone's experience regarding reliability/dependability. All bike brands have issues, some more/less than others, and some cost more/less than others in up-keep/repairs. I've come to the realization that its time for me to take the plunge in Ducati ownership. I will soon begin my search and purchase one, and preference is to own a new 1299 (non-S or R). Local dealerships allow test rides, so I'm going to check into that soon. I have been riding powerful bikes for many years, but this will be my first Ducati. In closing, I'm always open for any information (good/bad) pertaining to either of the bikes I've listed above. Thanks.

2WF :D

Welcome! You will find lots of information and good guys on here. I had an 1199 and didn't have any problems out of it. I only had it for a year and a half though, someone pulled out in front of me.

cmh210,

Thanks for the warm welcome. Yes, I'm reading as much as I can regarding as many aspects of the 1199/1299 bikes as possible.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your bike. Glad you're still with us all though! Another bike in the near future for you?

Remember, people mostly post when they have problems. So generally reading a blog would give you a negative overview.
My first ducati also and 4 months and 3400km in I am loving it!

Hopefully with taxes early next year and the insurance check I'll try and pick something up next year

35,000 miles on 2012 1199S without any issues before Bambi ran out infront of it and wrote it off.

Welcome to the forum, it's nice but it depends on where you planing on using this bike, at 6'3 it's not comfortable to ride this bike on the street

Carbon. Thanks for sharing. Sorry to hear about your bike. That sucks. Glad you're still with us. Any plans to replace the 1199S?

Thanks. I'm 6'1 & 34" inseam. There will be street riding, but not a whole lot. Plenty of local roads out here were I can stretch 'er out for nice long rides. And for the good stuff, just north of me presents some nice clean twisty paths for enjoyment.

I have a 2014 1199 Base with ABS. I bought it new just as my dealership was getting their first batch of 1299s, so I got a hell of a deal.

Like you, I have been riding Hondas and Suzukis for 31 years and this is my first Ducati. A bucket list item to be sure.

To date, only problem I had was hard starting initially. This was solved by eliminating the Charcoal cannister.

Now my only real complaint (not an issue, just a complaint) is my lack of range. This thing has a tiny gas tank. So, my range is limited to about 100 miles.

Other than that, totally worry free.

Oh, when you get yours, remember: these things shake more than an inline 4. So, I tend to check/tighten all fasteners once a month. Cheap insurance to be sure.

I noticed lots of missing fairing bolts on used 1199s. I am guessing the average rider doesn't check bolt tightness often enough...

But, Welcome to the forum and I hope you find your new baby soon.

Thanks! Yeah I noticed that also; limited range with that tank. Guess for the long rides I'll need to plan my trip accordingly with accurate fuel stops.

As for the shake i figured as such. Did the same thing with the '86 VFR 750 I bought new in '86. I always checked everything at least after every 2-3 rides. Thanks.

2WHEELFREAK, Howdy. Still deciding on a bike? I just picked up a 1299 S. Love it so far. :)

Sincere welcome to you here my man!!
Tons of info to soak up from a vast array of Ducati members who are all willing to share their knowledge with you Mr. Two Wheel Freak- lol.

Of course I am personally willing to extend my personal connections with you if you'd like.
I'm pretty sure that many here can vouch for me on that topic too? ;)
Stay safe and stealthy my friend!

Gunny
