Hello all,

I'm from South Africa and took delivery of a base 1199 about 6 weeks ago. After being away from racing for 20 years, during a moment of weakness I set up a team and competed in a 24 hour endurance race in December riding a GSXR 750. Suffice to say, the bug has bitten again so I have chosen the route of a Panigale track bike. First stage of the project is underway with body kit, high screen, lightech rear sets , levers, termignonis etc. On order is Ohlins kit.....steering damper, TTX 36 Mk 2 shock & 30mm NIX cartridge kit plus springs for the 50mm Marzocchi front end. After that I will need wheels but am undecided on Marchesini Aluminium or BST carbon.....any guidance will be appreciated.
Great forum this and look forward to being part of it while learning and sharing info.

Jesus! Should have just bought an engine and swingarm, as you're tossing the rest!

Welcome!

Only recommendations I have would be for a GP shifter with the lightech rearsets (which you're probably doing). Stock steering damper is just fine. If you're going to replace the wheels, may as well go all the way with BSTs. And there is absolutely no reason to go with Termis over an Austin Racing exhaust, which will make more power and is a lot lighter.

Oh yes, may as well spring for the best camera you can get so you can upload lots of pics of your build.

Welcome. +1 on the Austin racing Inconel exhaust and the tuning kit. Looks like your mods are headed in the right direction to make it a pure track bike. If budget is not an issue, magnesium wheels is the way to go I believe. I am sure other members here that have converted thier bikes to track only will chime in soon. Best.

thanks for the comments guys. Antihero, I am going for the GP shift....thats what I am used to. Never heard of the Austin system this side of the world and will check it out. Will send more pics as we progress.

Congrats!

I would recommend the Marchesini Mags over the BSTs, cheaper (but BSTs are made there, so maybe not for you :) ), and a handful of tracks forbid them.

The shock/insert swap is a great bang for the buck ($2250), and is a lighter setup then the S/Tri/R.

Steering damper like he said not ncessary, but might as well go all Ohlins!

Lightects are the best rearset by far, look for the CF heal guards if you are into CF, they look better than the yellow branding plastic ones.

Congrats and welcome. Looking forward to seeing how the project develops. Best of luck.

noob

Welcome to the gang my friend! Tons of super info here for you to digest, and many hook ups for parts and accessories as well. Feel free to pm me should there be anything on your wish list. Matter of fact I've made good friends with BST owners over there and sport them on my Tri as well. Lots of choices out there so have fun dressing up your new bride and stay safe out there!
