New Ohlins FGRT203, turned to zero compression, zero rebound, no effects on damping. The manual says during shipping or long term storage, oil may be displaced, repeatedly compress the forks with compression and rebound closed until damping returns for full stroke. Been doing that all afternoon, slight improvement, but definitely not performing normal.

Does anyone have experience with this? Any suggestions other than opening up the forks and redo the oil.

Thanks in advance.

I thought you had to take the caps off and vent off any pressure that could have built during shipping... Just a guess that might help, I had mine installed today and bet had to do that, if I remeber right there were tags on the forks giving direction to do that... Hope that helps.

if they have been laying flat for a long time, it takes time for the oil to settle and they start working... just what i heard from a mate who had the same issue...

Probably the air needs to rise to the top and the internal design won't let it happen on it's own. So yeah pumping might be necessary to get all the air out of the cartridge.

Just my .2

Just to be clear, when you said you turned to "zero compression, zero rebound" do you mean you turned the adjuster IN CLOCKWISE to the fully-closed position or OUT ANTI-CLOCKWISE to the fully-open position? If you turned them fully IN CLOCKWISE as you should, there should be virtually no possibility that the forks would have no damping after a few strokes. Where did you get the forks from?

The tags does say to bleed air. Might have to take caps off and pump it a few times.

Yeah, turned full IN. I had the nix30 cart before. I almost suspecting there are no oil in the forks.

Wow, that's bizarre, I guess your only option would be to pop the cap and make sure they're filled with oil and see if you can get the bubbles out. Might have to remove the cap and bleed the actual cartridge, but if you don't have the right tools that's going to be pretty much impossible. Maybe they're fauxlins forks?? ;)

I went for my third set of Marzocchis this week to be fitted, before they fitted them they opened the box with me present, we worked them, adjusted but no damping on rebound, seem to be on compression, I could be air but I don't think so!

When you bought the forks did they ask you your weight, riding ability etc? Normally an Ohlin's dealer would set the baseline on the forks and put the springs for your weight in. Did they sell you and extra spring for adjustments?
We normally send all of our Ohlin's stuff to Jon Cornwell for complete revalving. Jon is currently contracted to Yoshimura USA on their Superbike program if that name does not ring a bell. You would not believe how much better your Ohlin's will work after Jon has worked his magic on them.
