Is there a- New Panigale is Ugly thread yet? I’m a huge Pani V4 fan but :/ can we talk about the elephant in the room, or do you all like it?

Yes it is ugly for now. After a year or two of production sales it should look better as we get more accustomed to seeing them snd Ducati tweaks the visual design.

As for the swingarm setup, im guessing the design is for lightest strength/weight ratio as it has the large opening to give it almost SSSA strength, but with lighter weight. Im hoping the bodywork will manage hest better as well because that is the #1 problem with the previous bike, not overall performance, IMO.

I think Ducati ran into problems with the SSSA when it comes to making a swingarm that’s vertically strong but can also flex laterally to take advantage of higher lean angles and new tire tech. The new DSSA seems to be engineered to meet these design goals. Where the cutout is allows it to flex laterally more easily but it’s also triangulated in the vertical plane.

I feel like the current design was a missed opportunity. They say it’s derived from MotoGP but GP bikes don’t have a cast normal looking swingarm. GP bikes have billet machined underslung swingarm (which the WSBK bike will no doubt get) for better triangulation/flex properties/CoG. It’s like they half cooked the design and compromised with the accountants.

Cost reduction. Believe me that SSSA is at least twice as expensive to make. What surprises me is it's only 1kg lighter. So the rest of the weight reduction went where? Going to the SSSA should be more than that.

I think you don't understand Ducati's DNA, they didnt mess this up it was built this way for a reason which is to make the bike handle better and save weight. The DSA is vacural cast for light weight, elegance and production runs. MotoGP swingarms are fabricated as one off's and subject to constant adjustment so casting is impractical.

I like the design, its unique and very cohesive as an element that matches the cast front frame. We can speculate all day long about why or what its specific advantages are in feel and grip over a DSA but we wont know until riding it.

Is anyone talking about the awesome new wheels? They look like a set of OZ Piega's

For looks only I think the previous iteration beats it, but at least on paper this bike is leaps forward. Bigger radiator and better airflow over it should help with heating problems…more lateral flex so the bike will feel less like it’s on marbles compared to other bikes at maximum torque at lean angles. And that rear braking FOR YOU bit is epic…that’s something you don’t see on any other bike and if it works well is akin to the way Porsches driver aides are so good that they turn you into a driving hero.

They can eat a .... on that $8500 exhaust and an absurd $5000 for the ‘racing slip one’, but I suspect that engine is going to really open up with the EU 5 and USA restrictions removed.

thats all marketing trash

the reality is :

BMW,Honda,Yamaha,Kawasaki,Suzuki have had DSSA with more lateral flex for 20+ years.

but Ducati has been cleaning WSBK, SST and BSB with SSSA for last 2-3 years.

Yet another bollocks to force poor people to go on finance to afford a new bling

DSSA has disadvantages. The lateral flex will bind at the axle somewhat (especially if there’s 37% more flex) so it’s not all roses. SSSA will flex torsionally which may have its advantages. What would’ve been cool if they used generative design/topology to 3D print a SSSA (similar to what Czinger is doing in the auto space) to engineer specific flex/strength/weight. At least that would’ve moved the technological goalposts

I agree derestricted with more cam lift (and timing?) everything else being equal means more power. I'm still surprised that they didn't go to the R 56mm throttle bodies which would add some top end. Probably keeping that as a hole card.

It is a cost reduction that probably adds performance. But I be spoiled and completely prefer the SSSA completely.
