I went with the stock 899 seat and I really like it. I'm 5' 6" and going to the 899 seat didn't make a difference to me even though it's a bit higher with more cushion. I think it's the way the seat is cut narrower at the top. Yes, it is definitely softer. I appreciated that a couple weeks ago riding 200 miles to the Indy MotoGP.

Hahaha...No doubt...I have the race seat...but that does what you specifically do not want to ...it raises you on the bike....
Think I posted this pic before somewhere, but what the heck. Here's a good comparison between the stock 1199 and 899 seats. The 899 seat is a bit taller and grippier, but it's softer so it doesn't raise you up too much over the stock seat when your weight is on it. Planning to shave mine down and reshape it a little bit, but it's a better base to work from for that.
I tend to put the stock seat on if I'm going out scratching for an hour or two since it's slimmer and easier to move around on, but run the 899 seat if I'm going longer since it's definitely kinder to the rear end.

I put the lumimoto seat cover on with the gold gel insert. Cover an area as much as you can with the gold gel and you will get a good result.
10 times more comfortable and easy to do yourself. You need a sharp knife and a big staple gun. I put some posts with pics on here back in 2012 or start of 2013.

I got a brand new 1199 S seat for sale it will give you extra hp.. Lol
I have the race seat, and comfort..
Both way better than stock. And I like the comfort just a little more.
Adjusting your reR set will help, and a ducks bike suspension link gives you -1.60 inch to stock height if I remember.
The stock seat can be modified with gel incerts, I think it needs the front built up more I'm tired of rubbing my nuts on the tank with the stock
