After riding on the track past couple of months I've decided to ride my bike there exclusively. My question is how often do you change your oil when you are more of a track rider than road. (and any other routine "track bike" maintenance besides tires). I understand there are many factors to consider; how hard you ride, riding level, temp, etc.. I'm just looking a for a ball park figure estimate recommendation. A rule of thumb if you will. I'd have to say I am pretty stoked to have "discovered" track riding on my Panigale as it has greatly re-fueled by desire to become a more skilled and informed rider. I had no idea how technical riding was, and I love that part of it, as I am a very technical person. Now I ride at Fontana Speedway (in CA), but will start venturing out to other tracks once I get my trailer set up. Thanks for any input.

Some people will tell you, change the oil at the end of every track day. There's a couple of reasons; far more heat, stress and revs at the track, degrades the oil more rapidly... Changing oil and filter at the end of each day, is cheap insurance... It also means you get to visually inspect the oil to look for telltale signs of any mechanical issues or damage to the engine.

I wouldn't leave it any longer than every two track days and obviously you start the weekend with new oil and filter.

Others may and will have their own personal opinions on this, since it's very much a personal preference thing.

Cheers.

The best part riding a track is to venture out to other tracks, besides your local track, it makes you a better rider, I would change oil every 3-5 track days to be safe, lube your chain, check if it's not to loose or too tight, check for any loose parts on your bike like rearsets , if you change your tires make sure you don't leave any grease on them

I normally shoot for 4 full days, and if I've had a "light" day where I didn't ride much I might stretch it to 5 days. Changing the oil every track day is complete and utter overkill. Use high quality oil, Shell Advance the OEM oil is good, I use the Motul green stuff myself just out of habit.

We have a Superbike Track Bike maintenance guideline posted on our web site, hopefully this helps:

Beat that bike like it owes you money. She will hold up.

I change oil every 4 days, and swap filters every other time.

Well I think that is all overkill, my 2007 1098S has about 3500 miles of track days on it over an 8 year period.

I change my oil and filter once a year before putting it to bed for the winter.

Even at that rate, the oil comes out looking like I just put it in.
