Had an interesting character give me some insight into my "RACE SEAT", while at the track which I found very insightful.

I know my seat to be a standard seat with a luimoto seat cover, nothing more.. but was told it is a race seat. The individual was quite adamant it was being he owns two of them..

Is there that much similarity between the two seats? The one bike I did ride with the "Race Seat" it was just like a 899, all thick and cushy.

Yep... And just to add the race seat and the comfort seat are the same height with different coverings. Both are taller than the 899 seat.

same seat different cover race vs comfort anti hero had them side by side search it you will see

Same. I have the race seat for mine (and comfort for my passenger). When I sold Ducatis I made sure the demo had the comfort seat on it. I put a lot of miles on that original demo (the reason I have mine).

Looking back I have no idea why I got the race over the comfort seat. I like the looks of the cover and stitching much more than the plan look of the race seat.

More Choices These Days!

My Friend JDGUN !

I will say this, there are ALOT more choices to select from now than there was in 2012 when the bikes first started rolling out to the public - especially the Tricolore most of all. The day I picked mine up I snagged a "Comfort Seat" right then and used that most of the time, until I came across the Luimoto Company you mentioned as well. They were just starting to create their line of Panigale seat covers so I went all in!

Fortunately, I kinda made friends with the VP there who agreed to doing all the work for me after I sent it up to him. Attached are the pics of it upon receipt which I still like to this day. By meaning "All In" I went with the Gel Pad inserts and they even added a little something on it for me as well, which I thought was very touching.

On both the Race Seat, and Comfort model, yes it does give a little height to the rider, but IMHO not enough to make a true difference in riding the bike, nor as much that will bring you any discomfort by any means bro. Many members seem to think it has brought them alot more pressure on their wrists and other issues, and of course that may be true in their particular case. But again, in my opinion only, I didnt feel that much of a difference compared to the stock seat - Post Luimoto which was enough NOT to obtain and use the Comfort Seat. You will soon find out yourself, if you havent ridden with that nice Gift you got from that friend! :D

Attached a few other pics here too. Before mounting I lined the entire base of seat with that Heat Reflective tape to assist w the heat everyone here ....... about (No where near the 1198 style heat IMHO!)
Lastly (And SORRY for the long ass post here my man!) I REALLY like this one they have on their site now for the R Models, etc.

I was told by a ducati rep at the dealer meeting when the panigale came out that the race seat sit high that normal because it was designed to be use with the dp rear set which bring your foot high than normal.

Ya, you're right. The seat is 1 inch higher and getting rearsets that put your feet 1 inch higher is a logical choice.

One complaint i have is it does not have the flare at the front like the 1x98 dp seat does.

Also, surprising to hear the race and comfort seats are exactly the same (except for the covering). I know the shapes are exactly alike, but I was expecting the foam to be harder on the race seat. I remember the dp seat for 1x98 was very hard.

Toss in the 1199R seat and you really do have lots of options. I have the dp rearsets and the comfort seat for the street. I use the stock R seat for the track but at 6'4" it's binding my legs a bit. I'd love to try the race seat as it has the same grip as the stock R seat but an extra inch of height I could really use. I'd be willing to trade my stock R seat plus cash if anyone is selling a race seat.

Can't remember if stock R 12-14 And 15-16 are the same or not?

I think so. I think only the 899 and 1299 had a different stock shaped seat. The R is the same as an 1199S just different cover with a little more grip.

I try the luismoto cover it was too slippery , the dp comfort seat too much pressure in the handle bar, I when to a places that sell leather a got me a piece of thick ass suede then I find a local places that fix car seat. it cost me like $100 total

the stock R seat is garbage, i would buy the race seat it's a huge improvement and will stop will sliding into the tank under hard breaking.

I'll keep an eye out for one. Although maybe it's due to my size but I don't slide into the tank much on the stock seat at the track. Maybe it's the leather suit. I know with jeans on I slid on it a lot more.
