Hey everyone, this is my first post on this forum so I will make it short. Just got rid of my 1199 and upgraded to a 1299. The 1199 had full termi system, rapid bike and 2 teeth up on rear sprocket. This thing was to me quite the animal. Onto the 1299 and I am feeling a bit disappointed. Still in run in period, but the thing just feels very flat. It is standard, but I was expecting it to be at least what the modified 1199 was. Has anyone else experienced this, have I got a dud or do they suddenly unleash that hidden horsepower that all the journos talk about after it's first service.

You say you are still in the run-in period, how high are you allowing the bike to rev?

Give it a chance to loosen up a bit and give it a good run before you make too much of an opinion. The old thing, what feels fast to what is fast can be quite different.

That is a good point. What settings are you working with?

If you are in a different mode, or have the wheelie control or traction control up to high, that will make a huge difference.

Turn all that .... off, let the bike rev above 10, then come back and tell us how it feels.

Am only really taking it to 7 mostly but have let it go beyond that a couple of times just to see what it would do. Had in race mode and wheelie control on 2. 1st gear throttling on just felt flat and changing to 2nd was the same. The 1199 would have put me on my bum doing the same thing. I won't judge it too much for this initial period, and it's not like most of us can tame what these are putting out. Just don't want to think that I have offloaded a brilliant bike to this one.

Gearing changes make a difference. If you were +2 on your 1199, that made the bike accelerate quicker, which gives the illusion of more power.

you haven't. there's a progressiveness to the 1299's power delivery that makes it predictable and, while it might seem dull, it still accelerates like a bat out of hell. When I first got mine, I'd do like a 4th or 5th gear roll on, the motor would make a bunch of noise, and I'd let off the throttle, thinking it didn't accelerate that hard. but a look at the speedometer and I was doing improbably high speeds. The midrange torque delivery is more than the 1199, and it masks the acceleration G-forces, if that makes any sense.

if you want to get that scare factor back, start tuning. Get Tuneboy's remapped throttle settings (stock limits the first 3 gears to 70% throttle).

But....you really can't make any firm judgements during break-in. During my first couple weeks of ownership, I was convinced my new 1299S was notably slower than my '12 S1000RR. After just a slip-on and air filter, my bike put down 192hp on the dyno - 7 more than the BMW that has a full Akra and PCV fuel mapping.

Finish your 1000km, then start to flog the hell out of this bike. It'll wake up, trust me ;)

Chris is correct, The base 1299 comes with a 39 tooth rear, You said you were +2 on your 1199, so that was a 41T rear. Big difference. The new 1299 has power everywhere.

Everything in life is judged against expectations. Maybe you expected too much. That is not a knock, I have just seen that happen too many times. Also, gearing makes for lots of excitement but often does not really make a bike faster flat out through the gears. Your gearing on the 1199 made the bike feel faster than it was.

Haven't ridden the 1299 but I do have +3 in the rear on the 1199 with full termi and I can't imagine a much more exciting experience. Much cheaper than buying a new bike ;)

Keep in mind that a well modified 1199(like the one you owned) will be making equal or slightly more power than a stock 1299.

That being said, add a 41 tooth rear sprocket to the 1299 and you'll definitely feel the difference!

I felt the same way when I got mine. It is very sluggish for the first 300 miles. The motor really loosens up. Just keep breaking it in. The .... eating grin will come. Trust me.

I test rode one and felt exactly the same way... But my 1199 is a beast with full akra and a tune, ect... It makes my stock R feel tame. Thing is you need to judge it on what the capabilities are and where it will be with the same setup... Plus wheelie control. If it had launch control, I would trade in my R in a heartbeat.

I put 15/41 on my 1299 + Full Akra, the bike is a killer, wheels so easy (DWC on 2), 2nd gear and it starts wheeling already at 4,000 rmp, 3rd gear from 7,000 onwards...15/41 is perfect for country roads.

Using my 1299 on track mostly.

The bike is faster with solid second(s) on same track per lap compared to the 1199 I rode , the power and torque are much higher, meaning the bike is less explosive than a 1199 but it pulls like hell
You can go through some corners on 3rd with the 1299, while with the 1199 you'd stay stuck if not on the high rev.
The bike geometry/ chassis is way better than the 1199 right from the crates ( or almost ).
Actually you'd need to compare an apple and an apple , try a 1299 with 15 : 41 .........
and try to keep the front wheel on the road ( without DWC ) on 3rd or ...4th

What slip-on and filter were those?
