Hi guys,
recently some legend on here mentioned they fitted 1199R forks to their V4 base. I'm thinking of doing the same, I've been offered a very cheap secondhand set, and will be fitting new internals.
Are they the same size? Length and diameter for the two triple clamps (58mm lower, 53mm upper?)

Thanks in adavnce!

yeah I had the wide track panigale 1199 yokes on my 1198/748 hybrid... with FGRT ohlins forks, the forks fitted into the std V4 yokes......

Ohlins...... nothing available with a blue spring?? fanar fanar....

The situation is this:

V4R - Back to the stock Ohlins cartridge - FKR 25mm comp, NIX 30mm Reb
V4Base - Showa stock fork

The problem, is the unit lengths are different, and the Ohlins has five or ten mm more travel.

Ideally, I want to have the same in each bike. I've just ordered a second Maxton shock for the V4R.

So, I can either buy a set of Ohlins FGRT214 forks. These have the NIX30 cartridges, but same unit length and stroke as the NPX fork (V4R) - £2500. Then fit these to the V4base 22.

Ohlins is my last choice when it comes to suspension though, because I'm a princess.

Option two:
Maxton GP30 cartridges x2 sets - £2784
Second hand set of Ohlins forks x1 - £750?
£3,500

Or, option three:
Ohlins FKR cartridges for the Showa 22 V4B - £1800, no availability. Different strokes, and different fork travel.

The fork travel means, I could theoretically go one spring lighter with the longer stroke. So, 10.25Nm instead of 10.5Nm. Although, I think the 22 S bike is two springs lighter than the 21 bikes, as it has 15mm(?) more stroke.

So, option two is my preferred choice

FKR kit you can extend 10mm even in Showa outers I believe, full FKR setup I think you can drop more then .25nm. I went from running 10nm on NIX to 9.5nm on FKR. Now that caveat is that faster less technical tracks I bump up to 9.75nm.

Interesting Karl. Although, no availability anywhere in Europe for it.

How did you think the NIX compared to the FKR in feel?

Tough because I was on a 959 with NIX 30, and then switched to FKR on V4R
959 had the best feeling on the front end it was insane
V4R is so different I cannot compare, BUT I have gotten the V4R to a very good front end feeling with FGRT with FKR carts + geometry

So were the V4R OHLINS so much better than the stock SHOWAS?

i was getting my hopes up, for a new 22 base v4, with good stock forks

@RODOLFO you have the itch for a new bike? At this point, you might wait for the anticipated release of the updated R in a few months.

Nope.

The base Showa forks are amazing.

The only thing that's tricky with them, is you need two people to swap a fork spring. This is why I'm considering swapping them. I might swap fork springs a couple if times a day, if I'm testing or on a trackday!

Yes craig

I have got the itch

Right now I have a 19 V4S, but want to go for the base, and build it up this time (basically rear shock and wheels) as forks, seem to be OK, for rick on those UK tracks, full of hills.

So they should be good enough for me, and the pace I am running.

The new V4R Is a bit over my budget for now
