Help Support Ducati Forum:

just been crazy money for nothing for some beautiful Italian bike but Engine is completely rubbish How is possible to don't have the answer if you are DUCATI selling this production bike If you build something you have to have answered on every each problem but not ones care about the customers just tried to .... of the customers is very nice to when you buy after.no one looks after you

I smell a troll.

I visited Ducati a couple of weeks ago....I can confirm Ducati do not actually make anything.....they buy it all in.... they do the machining work on parts like cranks and pistons but they buy the raw components. Water pumps and all ancillaries are bought,

No manufacturer builds every small component in house it would be impossible

but there is no off the shelf water pump that will fit any of the bikes on the market afaik so someone had to build it to specs.
this is the way it has always been ^

Ducati still didn't make it.... 1 out of 10000 pumps may leak (statistics totally made up) ...that is a great failure rate.

it looks Ducati is moving all manufacturing to Taiwan.. Calling it "final assembly".. I feel bad for all those Italians in Bologna. Proves my point about cutting corners to maximize their profits.. They don't give a sh** about the end product let alone their customers. Not only do they outsource cheap parts for their bikes but now their outsourcing their last bit of credibility over seas to South East Asia for cheap labor.

They did say that was for the Asian markets only.....and they were sending the engines from Bologna and all the parts....it was just assembly

Want rock solid reliability? Buy a Honda, but you will be riding the ugly train, at least with the current model

The old CBR900RR looked pretty good - that was back when Honda actually built bikes that pushed the envelope, but they were following Suzuki's lead (original GSXR750/1100) who were in turn following Kawasaki's lead (Ninja 900)

I've owned more Kawasaki's than anything and they have all been fantastic, including my current 300X waverunner that rips across the lake at 74 mph and mows down anything in its path unless it's dead calm water

No word from Ducati on the leak... Dealer still has it, going into week two. I was told they are on vacation in Italy.. Can anyone confirm.. Anyone else have had problems with service representatives not getting back with information in a timely manner?

.... this is exactly what holds me back from buying a 1299. My 1199 was at the shop from Oct to late June. I got so turned off I bought a r6 just to ride something as summer was rolling by.

Nothing to do with funds mr. whoopazz? ;)

Again, this is probably a 1 in 100 issue - if it was that common there would be far more reports of the issue

The Ducati Scrambler is being assembled in Thailand; Ducati isn't moving all manufacturing overseas.

And even if they did? It all depends on HOW a company goes about it; it's quite racist to assume that Italian factory workers are naturally superior to Asian factory workers.

My wife drives a Mercedes GL450; a rather expensive German car....assembled in Alabama. You know, where all the "inbred rednecks" live. So presumably the thing should be falling apart, except it isn't. It's been what we expected out of a Mercedes.

Every once in awhile, something does go wrong on someone's machine, be it bike, car, what have you. Within warranty (which all 1299 owners are under), it'll get fixed. True, some dealers are better than others about this.

It is possible that if you found coolant drops and oil drops on the floor together, they didn't necessarily start from the same place. I've had my 1299S for all of five days and am halfway through the break-in. It's been dribbling bits of coolant, maybe an hour after I park the bike. I'm not losing sleep over that; I had a BMW F800S that liked to spray coolant if the reservoir tank was higher than the MIN line.

I personally wouldn't have even taken my bike in over the amount of oil pictured; it'd have to be a lot worse. I've seen new Harleys and how they pee the ground with oil :p

That's pretty dumb of you to say, you don't know my financial situation at all, and you don't know me. Pretty sure it doesn't if I was able to buy a 2012 R6 while owning a 1199S a year ago...

You've been trolling on quite a few posts lately, now would you be so kind and .... off.

Thank you.

Kismet capitan,

I'm Asian dude lol.. Cheap labor means they would be worked like slay dogs for pennies which is very immoral and as a manufacturer doing this just shows the consumer it's about how fat they can make their pockets. There is a your common trend with big manufacturers moving overseas for this cheap labor and mass manufacturing. With this trend comes poor quality bc your going from something that is maticulaiously built by hand to fast pace assembly line which increase defects. You are right about one thing in your post that it depends on the leadership and company, but if there are problem now imagine a faster assembly line pace where the opportunity for failure is higher.. I know I just did a PFEMA hand built vs assembly line. Yes your product inventory goes up but so does defective product. You stated that they would still build the engines in Italy.. This is wrong.. It would cost a small fortune to keep shipping engines via air freight 6,000 miles to Taiwan to get assembled.. It doesn't make sense to do that when obviously they are trying to cut corners.

Taiwan can make decent stuff.

It's not always about cheap labor. Sometimes it's about finding workers that want to do the job right. For example, a seam welded backpacking tent from Vietnam is going to be made way better than made elsewhere.

Sometimes it's taxes. Italy loves their taxes.

And sometimes it's the EPA. In the US and Europe, even when you are perfectly friendly to the environment, you may still find it impossible to add a plant or build a certain type of product. All Lipo batteries are from China for example. Imagine getting a building permit for those in the US! The EPA execs love getting their bribes and kickbacks.

Honda 929 and 954 had engines made out of glass. My CRF450r is a maintenance queen. It always needs something expensive. I haven't really been impressed by Honda.

My Suzuki DRZ400s is the most reliable bike I've ever owned. It's dirt cheap as well.

This type of insecure response always proves the point hit a nerve, and it was a comment made in jest anyway you little hyper defensive piece of ..... .... off yourself, you don't even own a 1299

The 929 was more or less junk but the 1000RR has an excellent reputation

There you go again, typical response from a troll that has been her for less than 3 months. How am I not supposed to defend myself if someone throws a ... at me?

Keep changing that oil at 150 miles! ;)

A "troll" is someone who derails threads, which is exactly what you're doing. I shouldn't have commented on your finances - agreed - but your comment was way over the top
