So looking for some folks to bounce this off of.

Here’s the situation: I have a V4s that I do about three to four track days on. I’m ok but not an expert. I would say I’m a decent intermediate at most track days. I also am on the same bike about three times a month on the street just for fun.

I just got a set of bst rapid trek wheels. Original plan was to swap current tires / rotors that have three track days on them and save some money. (+Sell the V4S wheels). However, now I’m considering keeping that setup and running pirelli td’s and Bremo tdrives. I would need both b/c I live in Michigan and td’s on the street below 50F is probably a bad idea.(riding season is already pretty short)

Thoughts?

Since we are getting to riding season, I'd probably opt for more track days. You can sort out gear in the off-season.

A better question, are tires and T-drive rotors slowing you down?

if keeping both sets of rims

mount superbike slicks on the OEM forged rims and OEM rotors

for street the carbón and supercorsas

if just keeping one set of rims, get the TD’s

i use them on street and track, and work great

heat up fast on the street

work great on track for a fast intermediate.

supercorsa are for sure not the limiting factor. No question about it. Frankly I don’t “need” the carbon wheels either. …but I’m 46 with four kids and if not now then when? So I’m going for it. I have thought about slicks in the past but heard they are finicky and tire warmers can be a pain. I like the idea of having a little extra margin with grip if that makes sense. Again if I lived south of the mason dixon line I wouldn’t be asking the question. It was 64 F for one day last week and today it’s 40F.

lol, weather here in texas ain't much better!

T-drives if you want to flash some bling. Stock discs work perfectly, or HPK would be a useful upgrade. But, I doubt if you'd notice a difference between any of them.
I race my V4, can't tell the difference between discs when I swap wheels with different discs.

So T-drives are cool for sure but aren’t they the same price as Ducati replacements, I.e. I would need something for my 2nd set of wheels?

The Brembo OE spec discs are about half the price of T-drives. Get them from an independent, not from Ducati!

Intermediate riders do not need slicks, in fact they are probably worse off on a slick tire.
Most cannot move the carcass to retain the needed temps and develop cold tears and wear the tire out faster as it is trying to gain grip while losing temperature.

I can take that feedback. I believe a similar Brembo is a 330 by 5.5. Not sure about the offset. Anyone have a Brembo part number? The link above sees off.

I run the oem brake pads with a full floating disc and race on them, more than adequate , she slows down plenty fast

The advantage I found with the SBS DS1 sintered pad, is they last about twice as long as the Brembo Z04. More expensive, but less hassle and less dust.

Disagree. Better tires, used correctly (read: with warmers, on a bike with the suspension dialed for rider) are always better, no matter the rider's skill level. Sure, they are more expensive, but a guy tracking a V4 isn't living on a budget to begin with.

I generally dislike the "start on a slow bike, spend 5 years learning it, then move one click up and spend 5 more years, its all about rider blah blah" school of thought. Yes, its always the rider, but absolutely no reason to not give yourself every sensible advantage that you can. If you truly followed your advice, an SV650 is all the bike everyone south of MotoGP riders should need on track.

appreciate the comment…. I’m pretty quick but not an expert. I used to race cars at most of the tracks in the great lakes region but now stick to motorcycle track days. When people are talking about "racing on a budget" bikes are so much more affordable even with a ducati. Guys i was racing against back in the day were running $30k a year just to run tires (stickers) and a freshened motor every other year. It was getting stupid to run at the front. Decided a few years ago i could have a cool bike for a sunday drive and then blast around the track and still not dump monster money like you would need to run a car at the top amateur levels.
