Hello people.

Today i got myself an Optimate 4 battery saving charger.
I would like to get the adapter cable so i can hook up the charger directly to the bike's connector under the pillion seat.

Can someone please tell me if the charger has to be set in normal mode or in canbus mode?

Thanks.

What bike do you have?
This looks like this is for a Lead-Acid Bat which will destroy your lithium-ion battery that seems to come with the 1299, certainly later Panigales.

"What type and size batteries does OptiMate 4 charge?
STD, AGM and GEL 12V lead-acid batteries used for engine start & deep cycle applications. (Link: Learn here about batteries, this will be at ww.optimate1.com/batteries). For batteries from 3Ah to 48 Ah for 24-7 battery maintenance. Can recharge batteries up to 24Ah within 24 hours."

I have a 2016 1299 but my bike has an ordinary Yuasa Pb battery so that will be fine with the Optimate.
I already charged the battery after i took it out the bike.

Just need to know what setting the charger needs to be on when the battery is installed in the bike and i use the adapter cable to connect to the Ducati harness.

I've heard that canbus systems can reject the battery if it's charged while still connected to the bike.
Does the 1299 have a canbus system?

I have an Optimate 4 connected to my Multistrada with a Yuasa. The bike came with an adapter cable connected directly to the battery. I know the bike has canbus systems on it, and put it in canbus mode when I first got the bike. I replaced the battery and saw the adapter cable was directly connected to the battery. I now keep it in regular mode. It charged the battery both ways and never had a problem.
