No. It's an aluminium tank with brushed aluminium paint and then clear coat on top.

I have been sat on mine two secs ago, it is brushed aluminium with clear coat. I even got a couple of limited edition finger prints in mine if you look closely in the lacquer!

In fact the 2013 R was actually just a brushed finish and no clear

"Brushed aluminum paint?" That's a good one. Now I've heard everything. Did he try to sell you blinker fluid as well?

On a serious note, glad you got the right answer and it 's all getting sorted..

Thanks you rocket scientist fuckhead

You cannot tell paint from metal

Wait for a year for someone to fix something

Have to go to a forum to sort out your bike

Insist you are right when you are so wrong

No mate you are the .... head in this one not me
I called out your panel beater not you
Take off your little panties and untwist them

You can't tell the different between metal and aluminum.

This is my first post, I am forced to agree. I have an 1199 R tank that is also aluminium with brushed pain and then clear coated. It's an original tank that has never been touched.
Don't really understand or know what's going on. Just saying, don't attack me guys.

May i post my findings, like i said i really dont know whats going on. I was as confused as anyone else on here.
I had known the tanks were aluminium and that there were two types of alloy Finnish tanks. One was raw un coated finish and the other a coated finish.
At the base of my tank under the seat i scraped away a little of the lacquer and i noticed that there was paint and scrapping away a little paint i saw the raw aluminium material below.
I am going ti try and upload my pictures that i have just taken today of the above. Please bear with me while i try and do so.
You should be able to see the little square that i scraped away from what is under the seat.
The tank is an original untouched 1199R tank.
I am fully awear this could open a can of worms, but the original poster rang a very loud bell.
I have uploaded the pictures Bellow. If you can't see them as you click on them, scroll down because I had to reduce them. But they clearly show what I said above. Thanks.

Thanks for your post. I agree with you. I have two of these 2013 1199R tanks. One is a spare and the other I was trying to get fixed. I also have a red tank which I have on the bike. I also contacted the dealer and he agreed with me too about this. A new tanks from Ducati cost $4000.00 and this is why I wanted to fix the old one as it only had a couple of marks on it from the kitty litter from a small off I had on a ride day. The aluminum finish on the later model tanks looks different to mine and may have been just clear coated but I am unable to confirm this. The panel beater I took it too said that when he was sanding the tank, the paint came off it and he thought it was only aluminum with clear coat at first too and was surprised that it was paint. I will visit him this week and take some pics of the tank to upload.
