Hi guys, just joined the site really fantastic, thanks for the great help and comments,

I require some help setting up the suspension on my panigale s, im goin to phakisa raceway next weekend so please if anybody could assist with the settings it would be great, i weigh around 80kg

Thanks

You might find the below useful. Its for a 77kg rider, goes through a basic setup and changes made to the bike based on feed-back and changes made after every session.

Chassis:

Forks set at stock height, no geometry change (+8mm)

Fork preload left - sag in the ball park at 40mm

Fork rebound set to 23

Fork compression set to 25

Rear shock preload not changed, rider sag 20mm plus 15mm free sag for 35mm total sag

Shock rebound set to 14

Shock compression set to 17

Rod position not changed to the rear shock.

Cold tire pressure on the Pirelli's set to 25psi rear and 27psi front

Session 1:

- scrub in new tires to the track, check hot pressure, get the suspension hot and reassess sag and damping. Bike felt bouncy.

■pressure gain of 5psi rear and 4psi front
■sag remained unchanged
■fork rebound changed to 15
■shock rebound changed to 12

Session 2:

- assess changes to rebound and see if the chassis settled down in the long turns

■fork rebound 15-17
■shock rebound reasonable based on rear tire wear
■rear tire showing compression too stiff, changed to 15

Session 3:

- assess acceleration on the rear tire wear to see if the compression change helped the tire and to make sure that the front end pogo was gone (use tire wear to assess)

■fork rebound better, but possible improvement at 18 or 19?
■Shock rebound to 10 due to topping out movement on deceleration
Final settings:

- stock fork height

- fork rebound at 17-19 best range

- fork compression at 25

- fork preload unchanged

- shock preload unchanged

- shock rebound at 9 -11 best range

- shock compression at 15

I'm pretty much on the race track on the way ... the chassis of panigale is good, but not perfect.

my setting on my S

fork

pressure stage 2
rebound 15

level and spring preload series

strut

deflection "flat"
pressure stage 8
rebound 13
level series
reduced preload 12mm -> negative travEL measure

so it went well.

now I have the pressure rating of it rebuilt fork, this is underdamped.

the TTX shock I let just install a 105N/mm spring. This I have to bias not so much -> so that should "pump" in the tail disappear.

Are any of you aware of a good document or thread that is specific to 1199 and more specifically 1199R chassis setup? I'm new to the street suspension tuning since I come from motocross. I'd like to know how the swingarm pivot, torque arm, sag etc. impact handling characteristics.

Don't know anything specific to 1199 other than threads on here, but it is more important to understand fundamentals of how motorcycle suspension works and go from there. The 1199 is not different from any other bike in that respect.

Good place to start your education - this guy is one of the best and has tons of video on basic setup and explains the concepts well: Feel The Track | Ensure your bike geometry, spring rates, hydraulic damping and tire size/compounds are in sync

The best thing you can do is to set up sag properly to your weight.

There is no substitution for a proper foundation to build from

Leave the swing arm pivot on 0, which is the same geometry as all non-adjustable 1199 swing arms.

Set the bike up as you would with the normal procedure, till you get it as right as you can for your normal riding roads/track.

Then play with the swing arm pivot up/down and report back to the forum if you find out any differences that are "conclusive".
I think you'll find the only significant differences you will notice with the swing arm pivot adjustments, will only be revealed on your favourite track;)
