Not for a track/race bike they’re not. I’ve seen carbon wheels literally explode from minor crashes more than a few times, and they can’t be fixed. Carbon fiber is also horrible at holding heat.
 
Ah same with mag wheels, they just bend. You could get them fixed I guess. Don't knock them until you try them at least. Generally carbon fiber fails when peoples brakes catch on fire. Getting a used babied set would be worth it.

They’re definitely for performance, but they’re also not allowed in a lot of race series.
