Crazy profile on these tires. I was doing some cornering and knee dragging on these and still have a small chicken strip. Felt like I had a decent lean angle too. One cheek off. Knee touching good. On the 600 the tire would be all used up. Feel like im not even close to the lean angles this bike can do.

You guys finding this as well? Is it the 200 tires? First set I have ever ridden on. No experience with them. My 600 was 180s. My 1000s were all 190.

The 200s seem to flick a little slower then the others did. longer turn in. Very stable once planted in the turn though.

Any of you guys running 190s on the panigale?

190 and 200 are pretty close. . most people still run 200's on the Panigales. . Even when you get the back all the way to the edge, the front will still have a 1/4" left .. . You're not even close yet, but that also depends on heat in the tire, etc.

I'm not going to preach because I'm a street squid also. Just be careful when dragging knees on the streets. There are no corner workers or run-off.

I've gone deep enough on my old "S" where I almost had my knee compressed to the tank, and the bike never slid. I'm almost 6'3" so I get to cheat. The bike is effortless in corners. I will say it takes some dialing in to get the high speed stuff just right.

You still have plenty of room to go. Just be careful brother.

Stupid squids...

Even with 200 rear, I am still tipping my bike faster than my brother (we have similar skill and laptimes on the same bike) on his 600rr on 180. That's how effortless panigale is.
On the road, he can deck his knee on the ground at ease while the panigale is barely leaning taking that corner behind him at the same speed. Yup, that's how impressed I am with this frameless design.
But, coming back to the wear, both my front and rear are worn to the edge from riding on the road. Not different from my 848 on 180, or fireblade on 190. The side grip at full lean on the track is amazing, though!

Rear profile comparo shots of, left to right Dunlop Q3 190/55 (on its 1st day out), Bridgestone S20 190/55, and OEM Pirelli SP 200/55. Q3 rear has the steepest side profile of the lot, but any of 'em have enough side grip to have the rubber rolling up and peeling off at the edges. Not that I would ever do such a thing...

As far as the street thing goes i know man.

I do it on roads that arent littered with traffic. Never push to hard and always wear full gear.

Im not even going that fast to be honest. Pretty sharp turns.

Im not hauling ass at all. Try to be controlled as possible. Stay in lanes etc.

just so you know i have said this 1000 times the 200 pirelli tire is actully less wide than the q3. people are obsessed with the sidewall number. the 200 pirelli actual width is 193mm the dunlop is 193.5 mm and the bridgstone s20 evo (dont know about the others) is actually 197 mm wide. any of the tires can be labled 190 OR 200 it wouldnt matter it falls into the range.

To answer your question yes many are running the q3 190/55 which are .5mm wider than the 200 pirelli.

Mark,

If the cost of these Pirelli is not in question, would you rather run Pirelli SC or Dunlop Q3? and why?

Thanks

I'm on the fence about staying with the Pirelli and moving over to Dunlop. Love the feel of the supercorsa but the price is a little steep.
The price difference is significant at the moment.

Put yourself in my shoes.... Michelin power supersport $550ish a pair, dunlops abiut the same price, pirelli supercorsas $750+$60 fitting.....
All figures are in local currency (NZD).

i guess thats a personal preference question. i will get trolled for this but i think the dunlop q3 is the best 50/50 (track/street) tire out there. what i mean is its a real STREET TIRE that can be used on the track half the time. I run these on the track (previously q2) and i love them. the price is a bonus. they grip great last long (whats long anyway right) and if it rains inspire confidence. my friend who use to run ama was always a pirelli guy hated dunlop and he just got a set and was amazed by how good these tires are. There are a lot of guys on here way better than me that may swear by the pirelli. maybe its in their mind maybe i am not good enough to notice the difference or maybe its a combination of both who knows.

you do know the pirelli sc is not the tire that comes on the 1199. the sp v2 come on the 1199. the sc is the race compound. in reality you are comparing a race tire and a hybrid 50/50 tire. the sc in my mind should be compared to the d 211 gp or d 212 gpa dunlop which is dunlops racing tire.

here is what is said about the sc

These are the real deal full race D.O.T. tires from Pirelli. They are the latest and greatest in race track traction technology. The Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SC Tires are designed for Race Track Use. Considering the fact these tires also carry the D.O.T. label you could choose to run them on the street if you like.

this is what is said about the d211gpa
DOT approved, recommended for track use.

so i dont think it is a fair compaison the q3 vs the sc. i think the fair comparison is the q3 vs the sp and to answer your question

YES i think the q3 is better than the sp v2 that come stock on the 1199 and the other bikes (hp4 etc)

just my opinion. taking price out of the equation is not really fair either. price is what puts them over the top. my q3s cost me something like 165 after the rebate for the set. granted it was for my ninja 180/55 rear so that made it cheaper than a 190.

lets say the pirelli are marginally better for sake of argument if i dont have to pay for the changes then maybe i pick the pirelli but everyday with my money i dont think marginally better is worth 200 more.

same with oil. i love motul i think its the best. however 18 bucks a qt vs 8 a qt for castrol (both full synthetic) i dont think motul is $10 a qt/litre better. if motul were free yes i would take it but price matters

If you think the OE Pirelli, the Bridgestones, or the Dunlops are hard to find the edge on, try a set of Michelins Power Supersports or Power Ones. They're much more heavily radiused and it takes a real effort to get to the edge of the rears. The fronts....not so much. ;)

Never tried the q3.

On my old track bike i used bridgestone bt003. They were sticky. Never slid on them.

I like the pirelli so far. Seem to grip well.

Thanks Mark, you really answered to my question. I'm gonna get a set of Dunlop as spare, I have 2 days at Barber coming up in July and a set of Pirelli with just one day at Road Atlanta, more then likely I'll replace front and rear on the 2nd day.

New tyres last week got 3447 miles on rear stock, changed for same Pirelli supercorsa 200. Thought abt 190 but not much difference in price. I have no complaints with stock tyres

Switched onto the Q3 three weeks ago an find it to have better feel and longer wearing that SPV2 stock tire.
