There have been at least a couple of threads regarding the closure of the butterfly/flapper exhaust valve between about 2500 and 3500 revs, for those with stock exhaust, and the resulting power loss and potential surging.

One here:

One option discussed is to manually disconnect the valve (technique described in linked threads).

How many people are disconnecting their valve, and what is your experience of the result?

Hi, you might want to add:
- had it disconnected, now it is back on
- have it connected, but plan on disconnecting it

I had it off, but it's back on, as i could not feel a huge advantage.

I didn't like the surging and I was constantly opening up the throttle to open the valve, got rid of it after the first service and the bike is fab now.

What do you mean you "got rid of it"? You just disconnected it? You physically removed it from the system?

Thanks Phil, good suggestion, tried editing but can't see a means of editing poll options. Should have thought of it. I am about to try disconnecting it myself.

Taken off when I upgraded to dull Termi system. Bike truly growls now...ESP,at WOT!!

I've had my cable off and love it, no going back for me and I ride in traffic most days.

Is there in any way a negative influence if you would disconnect the cable and continuously let the valve open :confused:

Perhaps the performance of the bike doesn't improve as much as expected but as long as it has no negative sides I would like to try it

Thanks for the info

The valve is only for sound suppression so Ducati can get through industry set noise levels. Its stupid really that they are only tested at that specific RPM but there you go, thats another argument. The valve does have an impact on performance as anyone who has felt the bike surge slightly when it opens. I prefer the smoother power delivery of the valve open permanently but if you dont ride in the lower RPM much then leave it as is.

I was passing some horses last month and the valve didnt kick in until I'd gone past which I thought, great just when I wanted you to work, you didn't, grrrr

Okay, about a third have done it. You've convinced me, I'll give it a shot. Sick of the surging. Thanks all.

Hello Everyone,
i have the same issue with my bike but i'm not a meccanic. Can you guys tell me where is located the cable for the exhaust flapper valve?
Thanks

thanks Phil, how is your bike running now with out the valve connected and how many miles did you ride it?
Thanks
