Possible replacement for Speed?

That is def wishful thinking because that stupid ass Speed channel lost a large population of bike enthusiasts by dropping all bike racing, oh except for dirtbike .... which I am willing to bet my disability check has less of a following than AMA, World SBK or Moto GP!

Maybe its because of that idiot toolbag Greg White and all his ....... comments and questions that ruined it for the sport! I know the guy personally and cannot stand to be in the same room as that guy, those of you who know what I mean can attest.

Wish some rich dude would pick up all road racing and televise it instead of all these effed up reality shows that fizzle out after one season. Two thumbs down to Speed for kicking us all to the curb!

We all know Fox plans to turn Speed into the typical "Ball and stick" (+NASCRAP) sports network. This seemed like the beginning of that move?

I don't understand the popularity of NASCAR either. Why did that catch on, but nobody (at least in the states) watches F1, WSBK or MotoGP? It's astonishing what sports catch on here and which ones don't. I can only name like 2 people who even know who Messi is. sad..

If Dorna were smart they'd do everything they could to get at least MotoGP in on the ground floor of a new sports channel that's getting a lot of publicity. If they were smart, which is debatable.
 
There is absolutely no reason why MotoGP (even above F1, WorldSBK, ect.) can't be a popular racing sport here in the States. It's a very simple sport: There's a qualifying round to determine starting placement, then when it comes to the race they all line up on the grid, the lights go out, and they race. They don't pit stop, they don't race for 500 stupid miles, it's 20 some laps, 45 minutes of non-stop action with plenty of passing and excitement. Especially if they broadcast the same stream that's on MotoGP.com with the GOOD British commentators who give plenty of information about the riders, the racing, the history, ect.

They just do a HORRIBLE job promoting. :mad:

You may have a point. I forgot about how important sport simplicity is to the American TV audience. Come on, we're talking about a country where the Kardashians and Honey Boo Boo rule the ratings. Maybe if they removed some of the corners and had the "Git er done" guy announcing we'd have a chance of getting picked up. It might help to change some of the rider names so American audiences can pronounce them. "George Lorenzo", "Victor Rossy", "Danny Peters", "Casey Stoner" (no change needed there - they'll love that one).

For some reason Idiocracy keeps coming to mind. *sigh*

This thread topic has changed a bit but I’m ok with that. IMO, international sports (particularly ones Americans don’t dominate) rarely have the successes of the more popular American sports/motor sports here in the states. Think Baseball, Basketball, Football, NASCAR. On the other end think Soccer, Cricket, F1, MotoGp, etc. I believe part of the reason is twofold; 1) Americans simply aren't exposed to international motor sports enough and 2) rarely any Americans to root for. When the ball & stick sports and NASCRAP are in season, we’re exposed to games, races and programming on a regular basis (daily); Baseball & Basketball virtually every night, Football Mon, Thur & Sun (occasionally on Sat), NASCRAP every weekend. In addition, each has regular programming broadcast on several channels so we can get our fix until the next game or race. There’s no other American or International motor sport that competes as frequently as the above with the exception of Supercross and Motocross (both which are growing in popularity each year btw). F1 races are every other week, MotoGp and WSBK……twice a month typically and none have regular programming during the week. Furthermore, it’s tough to attend international motor sports events or even watch them on TV. If you live in Carolina area you can attend roughly a dozen NASCRAP events and if you include the Nationwide and truck series even more. But for F1 Americans get 1 shot, two if you count Canada, 3 for Motogp (this year) and 1 for WSBK. Out of those three only MotoGP has an Americans competing regularly and we know they’re not on competitive machines. Ever try watching a live F1 race at 3 in the morning? Not exactly an ideal time to be tailgating with your buddies’ lol. How about attending a F1 race at Indy or now Texas where a single ticket will cost a couple of hundred bucks? Tickets for American roundy round can be had for under $50 depending on the venue.
Sorry for the long winded rant. But like most of you the lack of interest for these sports can be frustrating at times particularly seeing Americans spend more money on cars and bikes than most nations combined. Instead of getting more races we get “Are you Faster than a Redneck”??? WTF!!! :mad:
