SL No.325 of 2014: Transport and Other Legislation Amendment Regulation (No.4) 2014

This regulation, as summarised in its explanatory notes, amends the Transport Operations (Road Use Management"”Road Rules) Regulation 2009 (cited in the explanatory notes as "˜the Queensland Road Rules') to:

"¢ allow motorcycle riders to "˜lane filter' by moving between stationary or slow moving vehicles travelling in the same direction provided:
o it is safe to do so
o the rider holds an open motorcycle licence or a non-Queensland equivalent licence
o the rider is not travelling at more than 30km/hour
o the rider is not in a school zone during school zone hours
o the rider is not riding a motorcycle at speed through moving traffic.

"¢ allow motorcycle riders who hold an open licence or a non-Queensland equivalent licence to "˜edge filter', that is, the passing of stationary or slow moving traffic by travelling in an emergency stopping lane or on a sealed part of the road outside the edge line, provided:
o the speed limit on the road is 90km/hour or more
o the rider must not exceed 30km/hour
o it is safe to do so.

"¢ allow motorcycle riders to enter bicycle storage areas, which are areas of road at signalised intersections that allow cyclists to wait in front of stopped vehicles.

"¢ simplify motorcycle control rules - specifically, the rules governing where a rider must have their hands and feet will be removed and the rules specifying how a rider just sit on the motorcycle will be simplified to require them only to be astride the seat. (Broader laws already require a rider to have proper control of their motorcycle, ride with due care and attention and not operate their motorcycle dangerously.)

"¢ expand s270 (Wearing motorbike helmets) specifically to allow helmets which meet the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe 22.05 standard.

In addition, this regulation amends the following regulations for the specified purposes:
"¢ State Penalties Enforcement Regulation 2014 to introduce a fine of three penalty units for contravening lane filtering and edge filtering restrictions
"¢ Transport Operations (Road Use Management"”Driver Licensing) Regulation 2010 to provide for the allocation of three demerit points for a rider who contravenes those restrictions.

Pursuant to s 2 (Commencement), this regulation commences on 1 February 2015.

Just don't wear the same coloured shirt as your mates you ride with!

Fantastic news:)

A long time coming and a complete surprise:eek:

Nice pickup Ruley, I wonder if I'll get my points back for riding in the emergency lane before Christmas. Finally someone with common sense in the trans dept.

Too bad it will take Victoria 10 years to catch up.

I like the helmet change especially. We get absolutely ripped on pricing.

true on the helmet thing but the EU prices are about the same as here, bout the only thing it offers is savings with the sales they have at places like FCmoto & motoin etc....and more choice i guess too.

as for Vic catching up....QLD really don't like bikes, i leave this place to go on riding holidays in Vic, a lot more bike friendly down there IMO
