Question about dealer ordering EVO2 software

For those of you that have had this done, was the software ordered in or did the dealer download it?

I'm asking because my bike was scheduled for its 650mile service tomorrow at which time they were going to install EVO2 and the DMS (I paid for these 2 weeks ago). They called me today and said the DMS module is in, but they are still waiting on EVO2 DTC/DQS to come in. I would have thought that they would have just downloaded EVO2 from some Ducati dealer website to flash to the bike?

I'm confused that they would be waiting on software?

I think they have to order the update from Italy. Italy then sends them a product key/proof of purchase that they need to enter into the computer in order to download the software.

Having said that it seems like 2 weeks is unacceptably long to wait to be emailed a product key, I would expect it to take a few days.

Thanks for the insight. It just seems crazy to me they would physically mail a piece of paper with a key from across the world vs. email or something electronic. I can't imagine who thought that one up.

I think it is sent to them electronically, not through the post office.

I have no idea why it would take so long unless they are on Covid lockdown

My dealer ordered the software and then downloaded it into the motorcycle. Italy like most of the world is having COVID-19 issues so that could be the cause of the longer than usual delay.

Well, I found out the mystery behind this when I pushed the dealer on it. Turns out it is a software download, but the dealer has to receive an invoice/receipt (likely email) from Ducati that allows them to download the software. In the 2.5 weeks since I have ordered this, they still have not received the email. So, something is slowing these things down from being issued.

Yes that "something" is Coronavirus which when you have been dealing with a massive national death toll as Italy have, takes precedence over a motorcycle manufacturer being in a position to meet it's dealer requirements. It might be that the severity of the situation overseas has escaped your notice, or you personally have not witnessed the indiscriminate way this pandemic is killing people the world over. Whichever it is, I'd urge you to get a perspective of things. A collection of plastic, metal and rubber parts is way down the pecking order right now.

You make it sound like I'm pretty ignorant on what's going on. Possibly an assumption on your part? Thanks for the education?

I apologize if this came off as me complaining during a pandemic. I certainly understand the situation that is happening all over the world. It is completely fine that my bikes sit a day, a month, a year if they have to. I was not upset at the dealer. When I say pushed, I asked them for details rather than "It's not here" because I want to understand and share. People's lives vs a toy bike shouldn't even be in the same conversation. Everyone should be doing what keeps them safe. Period.

I found it curious that physical parts (which the movement of may put people at risk) are arriving significantly more quickly than an email (which does not put people at risk and someone working from home with remote access to a ducati database can do from anywhere in the world), and I shared this information in case someone else was in the same situation or was wondering what the process was, or was planning to get the EVO2 update done and should understand what the timeframes might be. I think the reason why these forums exist is to share information, which I was trying to do. Is it a forum to suggest how people should think? It would be fun to explore that idea. So many topics to discuss there.

I got an email directly from Ducati today that says "If you order, we can deliver. Contact your local dealer and learn more about how they are adapting their business practices to keep you and their employees safe". Maybe Ducati should be changing its perspective on things? Perhaps you can send them an email?
