Hey everyone,
I just picked up a V4R last week and I have a question on the brushed aluminum tank maintenance/care.
With the tank being bare aluminum and not clear coated, (at least as far as I can tell) how do those who have a bike with the bare brushed aluminum tanks maintain its appearance when it comes to potential scuffs from gear, etc.
I'm hesitant to add protective covers on the sides, being that I really like the appearance of the bare tank.
I'm nearly positive the tank is not clear coated due to how it feels to the touch, but hey...I've been wrong before. :)
Any input, recommendations or feedback on the care/maintenance of this style of tank would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks and ride safe!

I’m no subject matter expert, but you might consider having the tank sprayed with matte clear or coated with matte ppf.

Attached pic is mine painted matte clear.

The SP series manual specifies a clearcoat for the tank, its highly unlikely they would leave it bare from the factory, in any case the surface oxide is self healing but it's a soft metal so you need to be careful around it. The DP tank pads are awesome and provide grip and protection, for anything else I would use 3M Protective film, your dealer probably has a guy that does it and has the patterns.

simple green makes an aluminum specific cleaner and 303 has an aluminum preservative spray.

If you’re tracking it the PPF film against leathers isn’t grippy at all. That’s the whole reason I added the Ducati V4 tank pads.

Yep - need grip tape over the clear.
