Questions Regarding Clutch Switch

I have read a few brief things about how the switch on the beginning on the clutch lever works, but nothing definitive.

I definitely see how it changes the throttle response when it is engaged.

So my questions are:

1. Why is this switch here? (Actually "why", not what seems straight forward - it changes mapping - okay, why?)

2. Can it be removed or altered and will this change operation of bike and how?

Thanks for any help in advance.

JD I answered the first question in another thread. But I cannot answer your second question. TB may be able answer that one.

I just read through that thread again. I find that to be so odd that Ducati would say "we need it to sound different and rev differently in neutral".

Definitely not disagreeing with you, just find it weird/useless. But I guess some people think a lean angle indicator is weird/useless [emoji12]

Next question that leads me to is; is this dependant on whether it's in gear?

Having that same "snap" when it's under load would be nice, but if it is truly optimized for that condition, then maybe not. Idk.

Wayne told me that he spends a fair bit of time talking to Ducati in Italy about the bikes software and why it does this or that. Things like "why does the fan come on at 103 deg C ?" Its because that allows water from condensation to evaporate out the crankcase. So Wayne reset my fan to come on at 103 the first time as per OEM but once it cools after that it comes on at 90. Remember he can see the original maps and the coding. He can see what the code tells the bike to do when that micro switch is activated and he can change that or leave it as is whatever. My QS time is half of what the OEM is with just a simple adjustment to the code. I forgot half of all the little bits about this bike he told me.

BTW I think the lean angle sensor is probably useful and entertaining. The thread about it is just entertaining, until it ends up in tragedy. But thats Darwin for you.

JD, the switch is for the shifter and mapping. If you remove or shunt it, as I did initially, enabling my rider to start the bike in gear, the shifter won't work and the bike rev limits at 9000 rpm.
This is to prevent idiots revving the bike to redline and banging it off the revlimiter in neutral to make noise at drunken parties like the Bol d'Or and suchlike.
I would guess it also informs the ECU of where the clutch lever is during riding.
You could install a banjo pressure switch which would work if you want to swap out the master cylinder.

Would they stop the revs at 9k rpm with no load due to some sort of imbalance? Maybe spinning at that speed with no load can throw a bearing or something. IDK. Can't see why anyone should rev it like that anyways, but I know these things happen.

Just trying to put this together in my head. Doesn't take much to stump me [emoji12]

ok read all the threads i could find on this...
Ive just bent the metal piece so that its on the other side of pin, so it never engages. I have no issue moving my bike back to N to restart if I stall it...
my main motivation in taking this switch out of the equation is it made leaving from a stoplight someone spotty, as in I got different responses each time, was very had to be consistent.
if your driving with clutch fully out, reach down and hit that button..youll notice an immediate change in fueling...drives me nuts leaving a stop light.
hoping some of the Mech guys here can tell me if this is an issue ive solved, or am i creating another issue down the road?

Mick or Endo??

I have my clutch switch hooked up to one of the momentary buttons on the left bar multi switch. If I need to start the bike in gear, I hit it

of course you would have something neat like that set up!!

Can you think of any unintended consequences with my set up? Besides having to fish for neutral

The neutral safety aspect of the switch is so you don’t look like a goof in front of your friends starting the bike in gear and falling over. There is a fueling mod when the switch is engaged as well and I’ve been told numerous stories why but whatever, it’s a non factor. Anyhow Jetprime sells all the components to build your own switch packs (housing shells, switches) so I just used one for the clutch switch. If I ever need it, easy to get to.

Absolutely and for anyone that doesn’t know what that is like, jumper the clutch switch wires together and ride the bike, no fun. Besides the fueling mod and the neutral safety part I’m sure the V4 has more tied to that ...... idea. I never had the switch as I built the bike with masters that didn’t provide for mounting one but I knew what it did and I knew I didn’t want any part of it from an electronic intervention perspective. More .... to go wrong
