Hey Folks. I’ve been having issues with my QS. I’m 600 miles in and just started using it. On 1-2 and 2-3 it misses once every 3 or 4 shifts. I’m careful to shift at 6-7k rpm and I’ve experimented with hard shifts versus soft shifts. I’ve also checked my VIN and no recalls on my bike.

When the QS works it’s awesome. So smooth I can hardly tell it’s shifted. It also seems to shift best with a light tap.

By comparison. My BMW F900 shift is so clunky it upsets the chassis a bit on 1-2 and 2-3. However, it never misses a shift.

Spoke to one of the mechanics at the dealer today and he said not to use the QS on the 1-2 shift and to keep the revs up around 7k.

Just wondering if my description matches what other folks are seeing.

I suspect most of it is me not being used to the action (and also trying a 1-2 qs).

I noticed that QS works best when using constant throttle when accelerating on lower rpm. I have been having problems when hard accelarating from 2->3rd on higher rpm. Then it doesn't want to change.

I had similar issues so I turned it off until I did 2000 KLM and it worked a lot better after the gearbox loosened up, I just changed to a cordona and it is much better again.

I am having similar issues but only on 3 to 4th shifts. Not often at low RPM shifts, but pretty much always at 12K+RPM shifts. Super annoying and the dealers don't want to diagnose because they say they can't legally test it on the road. I'm hitting 5,000KM soon and it hasn't gotten any better.

It's a bit notchy when the bike is new esp from 1-2 and it will smooth out quite a bit as the gearbox is run in. I'm at 2500 mi and it's really smooth now. Give it some time.

That's a nonsense argument. Your bike is under warranty and should work as intended. If they can't test it on the street they should take it to a dyno. Period.

That's what I was telling them exactly. We only have 2 dealers in the whole province and one of them is useless. Not as if I have much of a choice but to be a bit more patient and see if it resolves with some more miles.

I have about 3,500 miles on my bike. It currently has the oft tune on it. Stock and tuned i still got the occasional miss shift or false neutral any where from 1-2 mid range to 5-6 wide open. I noticed it more when I was “riding lazy” and not thinking about making every shift with a full upstroke. I spoke to my tech about it during the 600 mile service and again a year later at about 3200 miles. He advised me to rotate, lower my shift lever, that way the full shift stroke will come sooner. I did this, it doesn’t take much, maybe 1-2 teeth, and so far I haven’t had a single mis shift. It has only been a few miles since I have done it and riding season is just about done here in New York but I’m hoping this will have solved my issue for all of the seasons to come!

Hey folks. Thanks for all the comments.

I’ve a bit more experience now. Short flick of the lever seems to work best. Very light and quick. Still misses about a third of the time.

By comparison, my S1000XR, never misses and is just as smooth.

My bikes at the dealer for a service. I asked them to check it out. We’ll see.

I’ll try adjusting the lever position as well.

Thanks again!

Got my bike back from the dealer yesterday. They checked the QS and said it was working fine.

I used it on the way home (about 30 miles). I paid special attention to revs and using a short, quick flick on upshifts and it worked fine. I only had 2 false neutrals. Both happened when I was too tentative on the shift and had an incomplete upstroke. I had one 3-4 up shift fail but I’m pretty confident that was due to low rpms.

So at this point it’s looking like operator error. I’ll keep plugging away. I’m also shifting from 1-2 and above. That’s working fine.

Only two false neutrals? There should be none false neutrals, ever! I can use the QS at all rpm's and all throttle openings. It's not buttery smooth at all conditions, but it shifts. Every time. Always. Have never had a single false neutral so far (11k miles).
I don't know if its bike or rider related in your case, but you should not be satisfied until they're all gone.

Or do you really mean false neutrals? Or do you mean ignition cut but no shifting? That's definitely rider related when not pushing the lever far enough or fast enough. That has of course happened to me as well now and then, but then it's my own fault, being lazy with the foot.

Hey Allramified. The false neutrals are operator error :) it happens when I am too tentative and don’t do a full stroke in the upshift. I realized I might not have explained this correctly. It’s not a “false” neutral, the bike actually goes into neutral.

I’m glad you’re not having any issues. Clearly I have more practice to do!

I spent two months with QS disabled and was convinced I’d need to buy an aftermarket. 2 weeks ago I enabled it and forced myself to use it. Finally got the hang of it!

You have to be a lot gentler and quicker than on my BMW QS. First to second is a quick flick and from there on I barely need to touch it to upshift. I’m very happy now. I still miss the occasional shift but very rare. Overall I’m very happy.
