Hi Guys,

Do any of you know where I can get race fairings for a 2015 1199R which accommodate for front and rear lights?

Living here in Dubai, the track days are held in the evenings and it is apparently mandatory to run with lights on at the track.

I was originally looking at some fairings from motoxpricambi, but I was informed that they can not be used with lights.

Anyone good ideas would be highly appreciated.

I use the cheap ebay knockoffs. Cheap enough to manage risk, looks good enough, and lights. Road legal even.

The Ducati fairings are perfect for this, as said they come with all the light and electrical blanking units so you do not get error codes on the dash either. They are the same as the stock fairings but without paint.

They have these for the 1199.

I bought the Ducati OEM set for my 1299 as race fairings, for the 1299, were hard to find at the time.

The full set cost me around $830.

They come with all the OEM fasteners, 3 electrical block off's for the headlight, taillight and side stand switch. They also have a fake headlight and taillight assembly, plus the bracket to mount the IMU on the 1299.

They come all white with the Ducati OEM stamp molded into the back side of each piece.

I think these are the OEM street panels and then paint is just applied to them. Where I have a couple of stone chips in the red paint, it is white plastic underneath.

They probably won't hold up as well in a crash as fiberglass, but I'll live with that when I need to.

I painted them.

Thank you very much for the answers guys. If buying unpainted fairings, what do you normally do with painting? Is this something you do yourself or do you get a professional to make some nice?

I paid about $1200 to get the race fairings painted, on my 1098, back in 2007.

I decided to have a go at painting it myself, with the view, I had the space and the hardest part would be laying the clear coat on, which I figured if I screwed up, I could wet sand it down and take it to a cheap automotive shop to clear for me.

I made a homemade paint booth, about $140, 7'w x 8'l x 6'6"h.

A friend, who works at a PPG paint shop, send me the primer, paint and basecoat as well as a spray gun.

The primer and basecoats went on well and the clear coat took a couple of goes to figure out how wet to lay it on without getting runs or not putting enough on and getting a sandpaper like rough finish.

Hey Seismic
If your going the route with the Ducati race fairings... what are your plans on the rear light?
Which exhaust system are you running?

Well, I can only go with fairings that accommodate both front and rear lights as that is a requirement for the track. Actually, I am still not sure what the best solution is for this. Would have preferred just to go with some nice race fairings, but apparently not allowed :(

I am running standard 15R exhaust.

I was asking because I am currently in a similar boat. Switched the fairings to Ilmberger street front incorporating the front lights, the rear with CDT fullsix CF subframe. I am now creating a rear light bracket that's going to be mounted between the full Ti akra exhaust's heat shield and the subframe.

Thats the reason i went with the ebay ones. They're painted.
But if you know a friend who does, it would be a good sense to buy the DP one and beg for help.
Spraypainting with a can can be done, but have fun sanding and filling and sanding and polishing.
After a few years I think I've perfected my spraycan painting :) this is my flamingocorsa fibreglass tank cover picture.

do the blanking plate covers just go over the headlights and taillights?

Or, do you still have to remove those 2 items first?
The DP ones replace those.
They are basically the headlight and taillight blocks without lens and reflectors.

I went with DP headlight block, and for the rear I had a broken taillight that I strip the lights and lens off and remount that.
That's how I raced my panigale.

For you intended purposes of running a front light while doing a night time track day, with the OEM headlight being $1900, assuming you don't actually need the light from the bike to illuminate your way around the track, I would get race fairings and mount a cheap LED light and probably do the same with a tail light.

There are plenty of cheap LED lights that could either be hard wired or run off of a battery, similar to what the MotoGP guys do at the night race and during rain races.

ChrisE has a very good point.
Although, a crash that destroys the front headlight is likely a crash where you have a lot more to worry about than just 1900 :D

Except then you have to switch everything around again for the street each time. I compromised with some eBay carbon, 3M wrap and decals. All to get a look I could live with on the street, even though her home is on the track. Kept my stock R fairings all nice and cozy wrapped up in the garage.

I did this with set of armor bodies, just buy some bicycle lights and the mounts will screw into the place the light should be and you can just clip them on and off as you need them (I got led lights and nobody questioned it).

Sounds very interesting. Any pictures ?
