I have been a wuss about pushing my Pani hard at the track, and primarily use my R6 "track whore" to coach and instruct. Last weekend the R6 had an issue Saturday morning so I climbed on the Duc. By Sunday afternoon I was railing it and realized that 80% of my miles have been on track. That being said, I bought an Armour Body for it.
I've search for about an hour on my IPhone and still come up with some questions. I'd love to hear info on how you guys race prepped your bikes, and what parts you used. My first question is what you are using for a fairing stay? What forward of the tank do you remove, and what do you keep? What needs to be added? I see some one in Europe sells a fiberglass tank cover, has anyone used one, and do they appear to offer some protection? Anything else to make this transition easier? It would be nice to get it all in one thread for future use.
Thanks

Motoholders fairing stays are top notch. Don't know too many people usig fiberglass tank covers. You should also get a stiffer spring for the suspension in my opinion. Get a fuel module like a power commander and some engine case covers from GB racing. The list can go on and on without even talking about engine work.

Thank SoCal. It will most likely get a Penske shock, as this Sachs really does suck. I think I'll go with the TRex sliders and if I actually ever race and have to have upgraded side covers, I'll use Woodcraft. I doubt I'll do anything to the engine, it's got all that I want now.

I have searched the interweb for motoholder, yoyodyne or any other fairing stay for an 1199, and found nothing. Found one company in Germany I believe. I might have to fab one

Thanks Gunny, but we've got Mike Faillace of MetricDevilMoto at tpm, and he works hand in handwit Himmelsback at Penske. Kinda cool, last season mike brought a bunch of the Penske guys out to a TD at Thunderbolt and one of their Bike shock guys was riding a Pani base. They hadn't built a shock yet, but he modified the Sachs, and said it was still a POS!

Oh yeah. I know Mike and his history! That's great man. He is going to freshen up my SV next TPM day I attend. We spoke several times and he is VERY familiar with who I was gonna refer you to. Sounds like you're good to go man!

When are you coming to nyst? It's amazing!

If I hear this one more time I'm going to just drive there right now and camp out until the next event lol. The past 2 days a njmp everyone was talking about nyst. Guess I will be making that drive.

Lol! It takes a weekend to really figure out this track. I usually tow folks around a session or two to show the complicated line. By afternoon they become familiar with what is on the other side of all the blind hills and turns, but end up sloppy so I show them again and clean it up. Alot of double apex turns, and guy hit first too hot to nail the second, and that's the important one! By lunch second day they have a clean line, then I take the out and show them how to extract a bunch of dragstrips that are hiding. There are some soft apexs and some super critical ones, with T15 having a super important shape to your turn and you better hit the apex dead on or the fast guy behind you is going to eat your lunch

Nyst

Brett,

I did Nyst on Monday with Tony's, the track is amazing! I am so used to loudon, that all I ever want to ride is nyst.

I have a question for you. I am a low intermediate track rider, and I have a gsxr 750 that I bought for the track. I was in 3rd and 4th on the 750 at Nyst. I am no longer going to ride the street. Do you think the Pani will be too much for someone of my ability at Nyst or loudon, being tighter tracks?

BTW turns 13 and 15 are ridiculous!

No way. I have a r6 track bike as well as the 1199. Last track day at thunderbolt the 6r developed a tic in the top end. I parked it and the the finished that day and the next on the 1199. I am now sure am done with the street as well. The 1199 is going to be track only. I just got bumped to I myself. Not sure about your group but I am told Nesba is a very fast group to ride with. Just think about the two bikes you have... the 1199 is lighter has more power but has tc to save you from your self. The only tthing that scares me about the 1199 as a track bike is that it cant take a fall.

MRKO,

Thanks for the reply.

That is what I was thinking, I am just worried about gearing. I am down 1 in the front, so hopefully that will help.

Are you going to keep the r6 as well?

Being in WV, is summit point 1199 friendly?

It is indeed, I am headed there on Monday to do main track. I have not had a chance to get to NYST but plan to for sure. If nothing else I have been brain washed by everyone that I HAVE to go haha.
I think 1 down in the front if perfect of our region. I was able to hit one 160 on summit main and thunderbolt, I think if I was 1 down it would be it bit higher.
I actually am planning to instal my new front sprocket this weekend.
I was going to keep the R6 and 1199 but truth be told I really dont like the R6. It is a great track bike, gas forks penski triple rear ect, but its wide and just feels big. I plan to sell it and put some of the money into the 1199 and use the rest for more track days. I will probably run the 1199 and my KTM450 as a Super Moto/ B bike.
